They'll never see another penny of mine, and that was before this dumb stunt.
Political grandstanding and sense don't usually work well together, in the first place. I have to wonder if Dick's had already liquidated these items before the announcement, and their "destruction" will involve 2 open-box "tactical" slings...Can't help but wonder if those firearms will be "destroyed" by slipping them out the back door of the warehouse with a big discount to various firearms wholesalers / distributors. Just doesn't make much business sense when they could be disposed of and still generate some income instead of their investment in them being a total loss.

I still can't fathom how a person ... can think that this will get them extra sales in some manner? Seeing as the people they are pandering to are generally not too outdoorsy or sports-orientated? Am I not seeing it?

Can’t understand how people in business would do something so insulting to the majority of your customers?

I am pretty sure I read that their revenue is down noticeably since this announcement.
Attendance at major league baseball games is down significantly this spring. Wonder if Dick's announcement had anything to do with that? Of course not. Similarly, you can't attribute Dick's slowdown in sales to their decision on firearms without looking at all the factors in play. Sales are down across the entire sector of big box sporting goods stores, not just Dick's.
And the largest contributor to that slowdown has been a significantly colder and wetter Spring than usual. It has hammered the revenues of pretty much all industries that rely on people getting out in the weather to spend their money.
Dumb. Dicks can do what it wants but this pandering is ridiculous.
There may not be loyalty anymore but gun people can hold a grudge just about forever.
