Most of you know I only finish my canes in stain and poly. That said my latest project is a beatiful, sturdy, 1 1/4 piece of oak with a natural knob (1 7/8) at the top.
The problem is once debarked and sanded it looked terrible stained. Im talking butt ugly. So I painted it flat black and will poly that.(ala blackthorn)
Paint offends my sense of aesthetics, be it woodwork, mantles or canes.

This one just might end up in the burn barrell

Any opinions?
Will post pics when done and take my lumps accordingly:D

Sorry to hear that, doc. Did you sand all the under bark off clean? Sometimes if theres any under bark left, it makes an uneven stain. Kind of streaky.

What kind of wood was it?

Some woods just don't have a good grain pattern sometimes. Too open.

PS- If by some chance you did offend the cane gods, burn the stick imediatly in homage. This will get you back in good graces.

Hopefully.

Sometimes the grain is not there.

There is another way to get back back in good graces, besides burning the cane.

-Find someone you don't like, or is mean to wife and kids, or similar
Best if this meanie has hornet nests, wasp nests, etc.

-Attach tag to stick with "Hornet's Nest Be Gone"

-Give stick to meanie, and observe from a safe distance.

Word is, some videos pay pretty good, so how ya fixed for taking a video?
