celebrate today but be ready to rumble tomorrow

can you imagine the gnashing of teeth - chicago and the dems are going to try an load this with fees and requirements and restrictions

but for today

:neener: chicago

(was that immature?)

Ald. Howard Brookins, 21st, chairman of the City Council black caucus, welcomed the decision, saying allowing Chicagoans to carry concealed weapons would help level the playing field in neighborhoods where law-abiding citizens feel like they need firearms to protect themselves.

"Certain people will have a sense of safety and peace of mind in the ability to do it," Brookins said of conceal-carry. "I know that even people, for example, just trying to see that their loved ones get homes safely are in technical violation of all sorts of weapons violations. If you just walk out to your garage and see that your wife is coming in the house safely, and you happen to have your gun on you, you're in technical violation of our ordinance. So I would hope all these ordinances would be consolidated so there's one set of rules and people would know where the bright line is to what they can and cannot do with respect to carrying a weapon."

Brookins said he's not worried doing away with the state ban would lead to an increase in gun violence as more people walk the streets with weapons. "I think those people have a gun now, they've just been made criminals because they can't legally have it," Brookins said. "And I think the gangbangers and thugs are going to have a gun regardless."

Well said, Alderman!

Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office says it is reviewing the ruling and would comment Tuesday.

That is code for "we are looking for a way to still ban CC while following the ruling of the court".

I'm not holding my breath yet.

Fella's;

This is a "win" in name only. You can bet your bottom dollar that the incumbent legislature will do everything it can to subvert the intent of the ruling. The people of Illinois are facing a protracted battle, which will be won only in the voting booth, for a reasonable and proper law concerning the concealed carry of firearms.

I'll openly predict that the restrictions the legislature will want in place on first draft will drop your jaw.

Maybe - there were 'enough' votes to pass a decent (not perfect) law a year back except for the 'supermajority' rule invoked by the speaker

I do wonder if some of the downstate Dems were allowed to vote yes when it was clear there was not a super majority in favor

like I said earlier - the real battle begins NOW!

Maybe some otherwise law abiding people that are trying to protect themselves from criminals will get legalized in carrying a gun. Too bad it is a felony there from what i understand.

“If we need to change the law, let us at least craft a law that is very severely constrained and narrowly tailored so that we don’t invite guns out of control on each of our city’s streets,” Currie said. “I don’t want people out of control wandering the streets with guns that are out of control.”

Good luck with someone like this running your state legislature. You will have so many restrictions worse than Arkansas had at one time and still to some degree does that it will be an almost worthless license.

7TH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS DIRECTS ILLINOIS GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO PASS CONCEALED CARRY
BILL

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT:
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has rendered a decision in the Shepard/Moore v. Madigan
case that states that Illinois’ ban on concealed carry is unconstitutional. The court
further directs the legislature to pass a concealed carry bill within 180 days. Although
the announcement of this court ruling would appear to be good news for self-defense
advocates, it is really nothing more than the first volley in what will be a heated
battle to preserve and protect our gun rights. The gun control movement, headed by
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, will be introducing a concealed carry bill of
their own for the sole purpose of satisfying the court order. Madigan’s bill is sure to
be a sham that will be so restrictive and impractical that only very
few Illinois citizens would even qualify for a carry permit – most citizens would remain
unprotected from criminals. Information obtained from within the Madigan organization
indicates that the anti-gunners will piggyback an “assault weapons” ban and other onerous
gun control legislation on the concealed carry bill. In order to prevent Madigan from
hijacking concealed carry, Illinois gun owners need to step up and let their voices be
heard on this issue.
HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET A GOOD CONCEALED CARRY BILL PASSED:
1. Contact your State Representative and State Senator. Politely advise them that you
are a law-abiding firearm owner and that you support the court of appeals decision in the
Shepard case. Politely advise them that you want them to vote against any sham concealed
carry bill that Lisa Madigan will try to push. Politely tell them that you want them to
vote for HB 148, the Family and Personal Protection Act. Advise them that you will not
support any concealed carry bill that contains provisions that would discourage the
average citizen from seeking a carry permit such as exorbitant fees, impossible training
requirements, or excessive red tape. Advise them that you will only support a “clean”
concealed carry bill that does not try to sneak through gun control schemes. If you do
not know who your State Representative and/or State Senator is, please visit the Illinois
State Board of Elections website link here.
2. Pass this alert along to your family and friends. Encourage them to contact their
representatives as well.
3. Post this alert to any and all internet blogs or bulletin boards to which you may
belong.

That's good news for the people of Illinois, but knowing Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan she will appeal it to the US supreme court. But this is a victory non the less.
