I just ordered 300rnds of 7.62x54R for my Nagent from Sportsman's guide. I expected it to come UPS and shipped "Adult Signature Required" like wine or mail order prescriptions come. So today was the day that the UPS website said it was suppose to come and of course as I missed the UPS guy (I was not gone but 30min). BUT my ammo was at the door when I got home. No signature and I don't have a sign on the door saying "leave the package"

The outside of the box did not have any special markings just the UPS label with the return address being "The SG Company" with their address. I opened the box and inside was a sportsman's guide catalog and a smaller box, the smaller box was marked ORM-D, Small arms cartridges.

To be clear the actual box that was shipped did not have any ORM-D stickers on it or anything else saying what it was.

I was under the impression that all Ammo had to be labeled ORM-D and required an adult signature.

But I am very happy with the ammo have not shot any yet but it all looks like it was in good shape and well packed. Shipping was quick and I was overall happy with the order.

If it requires a signature, then that is UPS's job, not Sportsmans guide. They leave stuff like that here for me all the time.

Why not report Sportsmans Guide directly to the BATFE. They might get the information faster than when you post it on a public forum. It's up to the BATFE to decide based on the facts you provide. If they decide against Sportsmans Guide we'll know it when their web site closes or something.

I guess I thought that UPS required shippers to request a signature for Ammo (like they do for wine) and my bigger question is the fact that the box was not labeled ORM-D at all.

Again I dont really care, I got my ammo and it made it easier for me.

The things you kids find important enough to post on the intarweb...

If you really care, go look at the Title 49 of the CFR and pay attention to sections 171, 172, and 173, particularly the part where it lists exceptions to labelling. (Section 173.63.)

UPS never has me sign for ORM-D labeled stuff, I like it that way. I order ammo from Sportman's Guide and Natchez, never had to sign for it.

Unless it states "signature required", all shipping companies and USPS will leave the packages on the porch.

UPS never has me sign for anything either. Even when it's required on the package. We've lived there so long and the road up from the pavement is so long, steep and rough they don't want to have to make another trip. We keep the road that way on purpose, it discourages all sorts of two legged critters.

Well thanks for the super quick replies, sounds like ordering Ammo online is easier than I thought. I may make a habit of it saved me a bunch of money.

Back, before Brady, I was a firearms dealer (hobby, from my house) I have had U.P.S and Fedex, leave handguns on my patio and they have left them with neighbors,

They were "signature required deliveries"

out of the dozens of times i have ordered ammo through the mail from cheaperthandirt ammoman cabelas or any other source they never require an adult sign they just leave it or hand it over no questions about age asked

I get the exact same results everytime I order ammo from them.

I've had ammo deliveries left on my porch, at my parents, at the feed store etc. I wouldnt worry about it.

My co-worker in Pennsylvania says UPS leaves large orders (10,000)
all the time. But they won't leave a computer. Go figure.

You're welcome. You might even be able to buy it from Sportsmans Guide again if they survive the consequences of your last order. :)

Priceless!Darwin please note for the next award ceremony!:D

UPS does not require adult signature for ammunition. If an adult signature is required, it's because the shipper asked for it. I have purchased ammunition from Sportsmans Guide Company more than once, and no signature has ever been required.

All my orders were marked, on the OUTSIDE of the shiiping box, as ORM-D

Small arms ammunition needs to ships ground and be labeled ORM-D on one side. I've written it on there with a Sharpie marker and it's OK. The only time you sign for it is when the shipper requests it.

The UPS guy leaves ammo for me on the enclosed porch. It is usually labled ORM-D and he leaves it anyway. I doubt this is against the law.

Who cares if someone didn't sign for it? I would be glad I didn't have to wait another day or have to go pick it up.
