Neck and neck. Interesting.

Edit: Well, not any more.

22 short, 22 LR, 22 mag, 32acp, 32 mag, 380acp, 9mm, 357sig, 38 special, 357 mag, 40, 10mm, 45acp, 45LC, 410, 50AE, and 500S&W. I have consolidated to these calibers (voted: diversify).

I'm fairly mainstream in that I stocked up on .22LR, .380, 9mm., and .45 ACP for semi-autos and .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and .45 Colt for revolvers. The only other two cartridges that I have guns for and are a little off the beaten path are the .38 Super and the .44 Special.

I own and reload for 300 WM, 30-06, 30-30, 7mm RM, .270 win, 6mm Rem, .243 win, and 22-250. I think I missed a couple.

For my handguns I have .357 mag, 44 mag, 9mm, and .40 cal..

Shotgun is pretty basic, 12 ga and 20 ga..

I also have a few 22 RF 17 HMR weapons, handguns and rifles, some scoped some not, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

As for ammunition for the center fire weapons, I keep a rather large stock pile of my reloads, labeled and easily accessible. I also keep a large supply of reloading components on hand. And even though lead shot is expensive and I don't do as much reloading for that, I always have plenty on hand, and my Mec is set up, just in case I need to ramp up my supply of self defense shot shells in a hurry.

I’ve said this before but I’d rather have 1 gun, 10 magazines and a thousand rounds than ten guns with one hundred rounds and one magazine each.

I have 2 guns that I carry and I’m more concerned about buying ammunition and accessories for them than in purchasing new guns.

I’ve also said this before but my ideal would be a sub compact, compact and full sized hand gun, say a G17, G19 & a G26 that all take the same magazine that way I’m only buying the one magazine and the one caliber of ammunition.

I consolidate for sure!

.22 LR
380 ACP

.40 S&W
.41 Magnum

.45 ACP
.45 Super
.45 Colt
454 Casull

I like variety

Me, too.

I have equipment for and have loaded somewhere around 30 different cartridges including a few wildcats and an obsolete round. Either the firearm or the cartridge has some interest for me.

For guns I dedicate to home defense , prairie dog hunts or critter control around the farm, I have lots of ammunition on hand. Other firearms, just one to two hundred rounds to cover the occasional Sunday afternoon shooting session.

I focus on the standards, and shoot them most often. Primarily 9mm, 40SW and 45ACP. However, I love the obscure and unique, and I'll pick them up when possible. I just don't collect much ammo for them.

I shoot 5 calibers. 22, 9, 38\357, 40 and 45. I might consider buying a .380, 357Sig or a .32, but probably wouldn't bother hand loading it. Odd ball guns and calibers don't really interest me.

I gave up on .380, and don't have a .40 S&W anymore, but I do load .32 ACP, .32 Long, .32 Mag, .32-20, .38 S&W, .38 Spl, .357 Mag, .400 Corbon, .41 Mag, .44 Spl, .44 Mag, .45 ACP, & .45 Colt. Nah, haven't consolidated much. :)

I have ditched a number of chamberings.
So, I may load several different cartridges in the .355-358 range.
And I may load .452 diameter bullets into several different-length cases.

But, yes, I only stock a few different sized components.

I have multiple caliber ammo for both pistols and rifles.

I cannot reduce the number of types because each caliber I have was acquired for a very specific purpose with real needs.

I have no desire to expand the number of types just for the sake of diversifying either.

I'm all over the board. I like to restrict my collection to a few calibers and I have gone through periods were I have downsized my collection in order to achieve that, but then I always undo it later on.

I keep it simple.

All my handguns are:
.22LR
.380
.38/.357
.45acp.

All my rifles are:
.22LR (again)
.38/357 (see how it pops again?)
7.62x39
7.62x54R

Shotguns are all 12ga. but for one .410.

So yes, I keep it simple. So simple, in fact, that one of my rifles shoots handgun rounds (Rossi M92 in .357) and of course, my rimfires that go both ways.

I'd rather stock up on only a few and be able to ride out a shortage because I have deep piles of what I need for ALL my guns, rather than keep shooting only the guns I have ammo for.
I had no guns out of action during the recent shortage. I temporarily dipped into my reserves, and have already rebuilt them to pre-shortage levels.

I will add, though, that I have thought for a while now that in the event of one of those situations we don't discuss here on THR, it would be handy to have something like a .40cal Glock with conversion barrels and mags for .357sig and 9mm. The extra weight added would not be much, but the versatility could be lifesaving.

I stocked for 28 different calibers at one point, then I decided to trim back.

I'm down to 12 calibers - but I think that's the bottom line.

22, 22 mag, 38 special and 9mm.

I've really had a hankering to add some .32 long to the pile though. Now for a revolver or two...three...

With the recent addition of 380 and 40 I have all the usual suspects and a few odd balls in handguns, My rifles are US Military and cowboy and have all the usual suspects in these genre too

22 short, 22long rifle, 22 magnum, 25 acp, 32 acp, 32 S&W, 32S&W long, 32 H&R magnum, 327, 380 acp, ,9mm,38 S&W, 38 Special, 357, 45 colt

I think I dislike more calibers than I like. I have use for .22Magnum, .38Special 9mm, .44Special, 45acp, 45Colt, .308, and 45/70 and that's it. No use for a .357 or .40. That's just me. I got stuck on those calibers many years ago and just stuck to them. Actually, I could eliminate the .44Spl. and still have enough to see me 'til I croak.

I did not feel comfortable voting either of the two choices since my goal is not really to "diversify my collection to as many cartridges as I can".

I have 'consolidated' my handgun collection to the following cartridges: .22LR, .25 ACP, .32 ACP, 7.62x25mm, .380 ACP, 9x19mm Luger, .38 special, .357 magnum, 9x18mm Makarov, .40 S&W, .44 magnum, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt. I can reload all but the three smallest calibers at this time. With the literal baker's dozen choices, I can usually find some kind of factory handgun ammunition for sale, even in times of mostly bare shelves, although it may not always be what I particularly wanted at the time. Add in the .22 short, .22 long, and .44 special capabilities and I have sixteen different commonly available cartridges to choose from.

I like the diversity, and have always been able to find something to shoot. Whether it is a day at the range or for a SHTF scenario, having options is a good thing in my mind.

Of course, some folks, like my wife, think the number of firearms involved is a bit over the top, but I enjoy having to choose which three or four are going with me on any given range day. Mixing in the occasional .25 ACP, Tokarev, Makarov, or .44 magnum handgun is a hoot. Even if I am not looking to have as many cartridges as I can, for me, variety is the spice of life in my shooting hobby.

I used to have 9mm, .40 S&W & .45acp in auto's and .38/.357, 41mag, .44mag, .45LC, .454 Casull & .475 Linebaugh in revolvers. I also had very little ammo. Upon consideration I now have 9mm in auto's & .38/.357, .45/.454 & one lone .475 Linebaugh in revolvers with at least a case of ammo each, other than .454 & .475. Works better this way for me.

I reload 25 calibers. Didn't plan it that way, but the guns intrigued me and any caliber I shoot, I reload (save for 22's.)

I, from the beginning to current, am only interested in handguns either for defensive duty or to sub in as a (.22lr) trainer for a defensive pistol. So no hunting or competition target shooting or whatever.

I like having more than one cartridge to help with availability, but not too many because then I would be spread too thin (not able to afford enough FMJ/JHP in each cartridge) and the "logistics", if you will, of carrying or pre-position spare magazines becomes that much more difficult.

So I am basically consolidated to ~3 handgun cartridges. Availability (of general range/target ammo as well as premium defensive JHPs) is extremely important in my selection. I used to have handguns in .32, .380, .40, and 10mm.

9x19
.45 ACP
.38 spl (and .357 magnum)

I will add cartridges when I have the money to support them, but not anytime soon (unless it's a .380 single stack). Otherwise I'll get more in those three above cartridges.

Im not going to say diversity to as many as I can.. but I do like variety...

I consolidated. I'm down to 3 centerfire cartridges, one a rifle. I just built up a supply of components for those 3. I can set out the next panic.
