Did you teach your daughters to shoot?

I love post #36.
"Mine is still a bit young and hasn't shown the maturity yet to REALLY learn how to shoot. However she does love to shoot her BB gun with her daddy."

I have seen too many parents think their kids were up to the task and were not. It is awesome to see a dad that is realistic about where their child is in realistic terms. I wish I would see more of this in parents. One place I have seen a lot or great kids with realistic assessment of their abilities was at NRA HiPower matches.

C-Grunt,
If you can get a Daisy 853 refurb from the CMP please do. It will be a great next step.

I'm hoping my daughter will show an interest in shooting. She just turned 11 months today so she's got a ways to go before she's ready.

Her older brother is 5, he got a Savage Rascal for Christmas. He hasn't shot it yet. I ask him every time I go to the range if he wants to come too, so far every time he says "no". I don't want to force it. The funny thing is, he loves to reload...

Started my two daughters at age 5 with a little chipmunk .22 rifle.

When the two boys were finally born they started shooting at 5 also.

Daughter #2 shot her first buck at 16.

Son #1 at 12 got his first buck them was a great duck shot.

They shoot and love the Garrand.

Daughter #1 really likes the .44 mag 4" with "special" loads.

Only daughter #2 has her Pistol Permit.

Wife has taken the FL concealed carry course and applied.

Yes, and shooting is now one of the funnest activities we enjoy together. Of all the guns that I've had her shoot, her favorite, by far, is my Ruger Alaskan. This picture is in the AZ desert, and she loves shooting the 44 magnums in addition to the specials. This really surprised me. Even though this is a gun that is comfortable to shoot (Hogue Tamer grips on a heavy, solid revolver), I though she would prefer something in 9mm.

This revolver also happens to be my wife's favorite.

Her interests do not overlap mine (she's been on a dance team for years) until now, and I love the time with her doing something we both like.

Both daughters and now my grand daughters.

I taught both of my daughters to shoot rifles and handguns. I am now teaching my grand daughters beginning with the eldest. I started Charity off at 4 years old (she's now 9)with a Browning Buckmark and we have now moved to 9mm. She has shot various .22lr rifle and handgun, 9mm handgun and carbine, a 7.62x39 AK-47. She absolutely LOVES shooting!

Well it seems I don't have the market cornered on cute kids that like to shoot.

I'm really enjoying this thread!

My situation is the reverse. My son taught me to shoot.

I love going shooting with him. Alas, he lives 2k miles away, so it doesn't happen often.

Yes

I have a kid size, single shot .22 which I mounted a garage sale scope onto. Everyone in the family has started with that rifle. Teaching with the scope takes all the work out of learning how to shoot. They'll learn to use sight later.

I've loaned that little .22 to my friends who have started teaching their kids. Have certainly got my $100 worth out of it.

Two years ago I taught one of the administrators in our facility how to shoot (handguns) and now he is teaching his kids. Occasionally we see each other at the range.

My daughter's favorite gun to shoot is a Colt Trooper Mk III in .22lr. She's shot it since she was 5 years old. She would sit in my lap, wrap her hands around mine, and wait for me to cock the revolver. I would do so and she would slip her finger into the trigger guard and, aiming as best as she could, pull. The loud snap of the .22 and she would whisper in my ear "again." She's almost 7 years old now and it is her favorite gun to shoot. It is already promised to her when she turns 21. My son prefers a Western Field/Mossberg bolt action repeater.

Neat post, Ash. That Trooper in .22 LR is a Hoss! I can just see the image of y'all shooting. Cool!

"Western Field/Mossberg" - funny - I just picked one of those up at a gunshow last month. Holds like 19 long rifles - sweet!

I plan to, as well as sign her up for martial arts. She's a little young for both. I don't know if she will be a tomboy or girly girl, later in life but I want her to know how to be able to defend herself. If she enjoys it and wants to do even more I will be very supportive. She now comes from time to time with me to the trap league. She will watch a bit and then off to the play ground at the gun range. How thoughtful of the gun range to have a real playground for the young kids.

Yep. Have 3 daughters, 10, 7, and 5.

My 10yo shoots and reloads .223, .243 and .308.

My 7yo, while I taught her to shoot, she didn't like to so I haven't pushed it any further. I figure she'll come around in time.

My 5yo, all she's shot so far is .22LR and pulls the trigger as fast as she can. Lol. She loves shooting and wants to shoot a deer.

I taught my daughter with a Chipmunk rifle. She was a fair shot.

She qual'ed Sharpshooter in Army BCT.

I was very glad she knew how to handle a rifle well:

Yup, all three, plus took them through DNR gun safety and 4-h shooting sports.

not yet... she has a custom AK-74 but is only 5.... in a few years she'll be able to go to the local range.

Started around two and a half. Had fun for a few rounds then went back to playing in the dirt.

Now she can shoot as long as I feel like pumping up the rifle. Will have a PCP on the way shortly.

Here was my oldest (10) this evening....sorting bullets for her F-Class match ammo. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433115357.051180.jpg

My middle daughter (7), will be running the progressive tomorrow since they're out of school now. She'll be loading some 9mm for me and my wife as well as my oldest daughter.

Took my 38 year old daughter and her hubby to the range two weeks ago. She started shooting with me when she was 5.

She shot the pants off her hubby with my S&W 624 .44 special.
