I have been looking at a Mossy 590A1 lately and noticed that I can get a 590SP for about 80$ cheaper. I have seen on other sites that they are basically the same thing, but I figured I would extend this question to you shotgun nuts that would probably know for sure.
So, is the 590A1 any different than an SP?
Thanks!

590A1 Has a heavy wall bbl and metal trigger guard and safety. It has 590A1 engraved in large letter on the left side of the receiver. It is a heavy shotgun for military use.

590SP standard bbl, plastic guard & safety. Lighter weight

That is the basics.

The 590A1 with 20" barrel is really heavy. There is no real advantage to the heavier barrel. If you get a 590A1, you should consider the 18.5" version.

What’s really funny is that some of our boys overseas are using Mossberg 500A 6 shot (Persuader) that was bought at Wal-Mart. When and if the polymer parts break, the armory replaces it with the aluminum parts.

We have the M500. It's a parkerized 18 inch barrel, 5+1 capacity, and says Mossberg Model 500 on the receiver. Bead sight.
MY unit has six of them.
