Im getting close to ordering a 550, probably tomorrow (Monday)..I know (read) that the 550 comes already setup and adjusted for large primers..Is it possible to have it ordered and adjusted for small primers (9mm) as that would be one less step in the learning curve in the beginning..??

I have two Dillon 550B presses set up for reloading. If my memory serves me corrrectly you will have to install the primer assembly to the press on initial set up by following Dillon's excellent instruction manual. In set up, you may select either the large or small primer arm assembly and the set up is the same for either. It takes less than 5 miutes to change from large to small primer arms and you could. almost change them over blindfolded. You receive a large and small primer arm with your Dillon 550B and you do not have to change primer punches, springs, or set screws as you would do in a single stage press...it comes already assembled. Don't sweat the changeover., it's a "no brainer" procedure. I'm sure others on this site will say the same thing. Good luck with your new press!
Thanks much for the reply....I still on the fence with the 550B...I still want the auto-indexing, the 650 is too much press for me and unsure of the Square Deal, as Brian Enos doesmt much recommend it as for its size....So Im back to the manual indexing of the 550B, but Im going blue

Delta: I agonized over the manual indexing on the 550 before finally purchasing my first one. However I now like the idea of manually indexing the press since you can stop and check the round at any time in the cycle and it's much more convenient when setting up new dies or setting the dies for a new type bullet. It is not any slower that an auto indexing press without all the problems of an auto press...have one accidental powder spill or empty primer stuck in the press and you will know what I mean. Go with the 550B.

I've had auto index and 550's. I prefer the 550 for the above reasons. If I already owned an auto index, I'd try to disable it

I am like the rest, I prefer to index myself so that I have better control over the process and can check things as I go along.
If you need a auto-indexer to make sure you move to the next stage, you are not paying enough attention to be re-loading in the first place (IMHO). Course, most people use auto-indexing for the convience, not because they need it (so don't bother flaming me I am not putting down the auto-index, just that I do not prefer it).
