Is this a good deal? It seems a little high but wanted your opinion.

Dillon RL 550 B Reloading Press Includes: Low primmer warning system Strong Mount system with Aluminum Bullet Tray Tool head Mount / 2 Dillon Bullet Bins Comes with Dillon 9mm Carbide Dies 300+ pcs. of 9mm brass included 1000+ pcs. of .40 calb. brass Pimmer Pick Up tube and Extra tips Allen Wrenches and Instruction Book Like New and Dillons lifetime "No B.S. Warranty" $500.00 CASH Only/ No trades / No shipping / No Scammers

The extras: Strong Mount & Dillon dies.

The strong mount is a waste of time if you've built a bench at the correct height.
Dillon dies are no better than Lee dies, which cost ~$35.

There is also a reasonable chance that something is wrong (or missing) from the press and you'll have to ship it back to Dillon to get the problem fixed. Dillon will replace some missing parts for free, but not others.

Bottom line - $500 is not a great deal. I wouldn't do it. Offer him $350. If he takes it, great. You'll have saved enough to cover extra costs you might incur due to previous ownership/boneneadedness. If he won't take a $350, buy a 550 from Dillon. They run $430 + about $20 freight.

Check the prices being asked for Dillon 550's on both Ebay and Gunbroker and make your own mind up. Might want to also check the Dillon site to determine what a new unit plus accessories will cost you. Dillon presses are expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

Well its not overpriced. However, as someone already said you may not need all of that. I dont pay for brass, so that wouldnt be a big deal for me. If you have a good place to get it than you can click that off. I use Lee dies, and they do great. Again so there is only 35 dollars. I dont use the strong mount, and I get bins from harbor frieght for next to nothing. The press itself is 429 after tax you're probably around 450. So if you look at it like that its not a bad deal. Dillion dies are good, so you're getting all them extras that you might or might not need for 50 dollars. Im willing to bet you could sell those that you dont need and be money ahead.

Personally, I'm not aware of anything on the 550 that Dillon won't replace for free. Yes, they'll charge you for a full rebuild if you drag your press off the bottom of a lake. I've bought broken pieces including dies and powder measures off Ebay that they fixed for free.

Additionally, you might argue that Dillon reloading dies aren't worth twice what Lee charges, but there's no way you can say that Dillon dies are no better than Lee dies. IMHO there's a huge difference in those 2 statements.

Let me prove it. You mail me the Dillon dies and I'll send you a Lee 4-die set. For FREE !

good deal

I want to be in line after GrimmLV.

Prepare to be pleased with this purchase. Blue Cool-Aid tastes good.

It's a good deal

Even if something is wrong with it, Dillon will make it right again... at no charge! I guess I'm too low on the list to get a chance at it :uhoh:

There's nothing wrong with the strong mounts. I find that the mounts spread the torque out over a greater area which means you can us a thinner counter top. I went from a top that was 2 1/4 ' thick to a piece of standard household counter top. The original top was a top from a drafting bench 1" thick,it snapped using a single stage press. Had to reenforce it with 2 pieces of ply wood.
