OP, sorry to hear about your situation. Anymore, these days I just pick the action, pick the barrel blank of choice and find a great gunsmith to marry them together, with me choosing the wedding vows (i.e. throat, leade, etc.). Is it more expensive than buying off the shelf, yes. Do I feel it is worth it, well my experiences and hearing about experiences such as this, yes.
I don't get much time to enjoy my hobby so having quality over quantity makes a lot of sense in my mind. Maybe just something to think about for the OP, there are a lot of great actions and barrel blanks to choose from, and posting where your location is at on this board, I'm betting there will be some recommendations for great gunsmiths.
