Dad was going to order a viking hand axe for me from the sportsman's guide... but apparently there is a new law restricting shipping of such items to my state, as the blade is too long.

Color me silly but I bought a Colt Black Powder Revolver from the Guide via mail order. This law seems silly.

Wait just a sec...

You can't buy axes in CO?

Is this a SG policy or is this a state law?

If it is just SG policy, may I suggest contacting Ragnar over at http://www.ragweedforge.com/Welcome.html

He is a good guy to deal with and last I checked, he had viking style axes in stock.

I just can't imagine state law forbidding the importation of axes... They aren't even that restrictive in Europe!

Don't they have trees that need cuttingin Colorado? A blade length restriction on Axes? Not that axe bits are that long to begin with... 3-4" in the case of a hand axe.

If you don't mind my asking, who told you about this new "law" anyway?

Weird is right.

According to a CSR at The Sportsman's Guide, this item is now restricted for sale (via the mail) in Colorado, though it doesn't say so on the web site.

Guess I'll have to walk down to the hardware store to buy a hatchet.

Like I said I've bought guns/kinves/swords in the mail before, so something seems incredibly fishy.

Besides it's not like the average hood needs a hand axe with a cut out for fine shaping.

SG is known for their shipping restrictions. If they think they MIGHT get into trouble, they won't ship. Not to say that there is no law, but my guess is that SG is just limiting their liability.

Like I said, give Ragnar a look.

So are you going to use this thing as a carpenters axe? I don't have this particular model, but I plan on getting one in the near future.
