Came across this website for budget DIY ballistics gel. Seems like it'd be fun to do once or twice maybe. Any of you guys ever tried or know of something better? Thanks.

Edit: I realize it wont be exactly to FBI standards or anything but maybe I could use a conversion formula to be more exact. More of a try it for fun thing than super critical research.
Close would count for my purposes.

Cool post. However, something's missing.

The comparison to Ballistic Gel! Just as the latter must be calibrated, so too should this, and, if a different or additional step where needed or the calibration indicated it was thinner (for example) than official Ballistic Gel, then, we'd know how to adjust the homemade results.

I want to make some to see what hollow point pellets look like when they hit it. If they actually expand or not. Maybe even some .22's. Not for official results, but just because I like to see bullets after they've been fired and hit something.

Seems FBI calibrates their gel viscosity with a steel BB at 600fps. 2.95-3.74" of penetration is a "pass" for their viscosity standards.

Here are the tests I do.

I don't calibrate either. The reason being that having spent all my money on the gel mix, I couldn't afford an air rifle capable of 600 f/s.

In more recent tests I've been going with 20% density because the blocks are smaller and easier to transport.

It's mostly a way to see how rounds compare to each other rather than to act as a 100% analogue for an organism. Plus it's fun:D
