Does anyone have an idea for a way to make a borescope? There are nice ones available from Hawkeye, for instance as listed here,

http://www.gradientlens.com/Rigid-Borescopes/Hawkeye-Classic-Slim.aspx

but they're pricey at $1,500 and up for a 22" model that'll do a full-length rifle barrel, or at least good portion of one if it's an M1 Garand or Mosin 91/30.

There are more economical models, like this $175 unit by General Tool,

http://www.amazon.com/General-DCS30...8-2-fkmr0&keywords="general+instrument"+scope

but they're more for trades like plumbing. I have one with a small-diameter head and cable that fits a .22 barrel and will focus close-up, but the resolution isn't fine enough for our purposes.

Given today's availability of electronic and optical components, it seems as though it might be possible to put together a DIY scope that does the trick, might not be fancy, but doesn't break the bank. Any ideas?
