I don't think that I am the first to think of this but today I took the wooden butt stock from my Rem 700 .308 and removed the rubber/plastic off the end of my butt stock, I drilled 5 holes to fit 5 loaded .308 shells. It was easy. I put the 5 emergency back up rounds in the drilled holes, one round per drilled hole and they fit in very well. When all 5 rounds were snug into the drilled holes, I took the butt plate and with my Philips screwdriver and re attached the butt plate. Now I have 5 emergency rounds if I was to ever need them. Food for thought.

Hunters have been doing this for ever, used to be popular around my parts. For years I've removed the butt plates off every gun I get, I've found hunting licenses ammo money maps notes of who owned the gun even a venison recipe. The question you have to ask is what will you forget first the ammo or the screws driver lol.
