Does the "Classic" series of 29/629 revolvers automatically have the spring loaded, replacable front sight capability? If not, how can one tell which ones have it, by the "dash" number? Thanks!!

I have two S&W M629-3 Classics (6.5" barrels) and two M629-4 Classics (5" and 6.5" barrels). All four DO have the spring loaded front sight. Can't speak for other models.

Good shooting and be safe.

Sheldon,
None of my S&W 629's are the DX version and all four DO have the spring loaded front sight. Note that there is a pin in the bottom of the sight base BUT it is not necessary to remove this pin in order to remove the sight. (Don't ask me how I know that.)

Good shooting and be safe.

I guess they mixed it up pretty good as to which models have that sight. I like the feature and wish mine had it. It would make swapping them sights a lot easier. Love the plain black partridge as well as the gold bead.....would not mind trying the fiber optic one sometime.

If the gun is part of the Classic series, yes it has the interchangable sight.

Many other models also have the sight, especially Performance Center models. But AFAIK... there are no hard rules on where it was offered.

BTW: It's a great set up. I wish S&W would put it on more guns.

I agree that it is a great feature, and I wont buy a 44 without it. I hate the orange ramp sight, and just want a black Patridge. But Ive asked a few people selling "Classics" and they said it didnt have that feature, (as well as Sheldon from this forum). So I dont think you can just assume they all have the feature. Time to call S&W!
