I went up to Colorado Springs today to see if I could get my hands on a nice .40 that I could use when my ccw came in. I was up at specialty sports and supply and was convinced that I was gonna have to wait a bit longer before getting a gun so I could afford one of the ones I was looking at. When all of a sudden a beautiful stainless Beretta 96 compact caught my eye. Naturally for the price I had no choice but to grab it right there. As I am walking out of the store with my new trusty sidearm my phone rings. It was the friendly commander at my sheriffs office informing me that my checks had come back clean ( about a month early) and all I had to do was drop by to get my ccp. So, now I am sitting here with a fancy new gun, a hundred rounds of ammo, a ccp, and a large smile on my face. I just wanted to say thanks to all the members here who gave me ideas for a new gun. Later on after I get back from the range I will get some pics up and give you guys my first impressions.

Congrats on the gun and permit.

Now that your armed be sure to work on situational awareness. The object of having a CCW is to not use it unless absolutely necessary. Always be aware of your surroundings at all times!!!

Be safe and enjoy.

Wow, who'da thunk you could see a gun, buy it, and walk out with it on the same day! I'll bet you can buy more than one a month as well huh?

...California dreamin...

Yep, yesterday 13 Nov 03, my #1 daughter, Gus Dddysgrl, calls and asks which exit to Trops gun shop? She got her permit 10 days after her 21st Bday, and goes into the shop and handles the guns with excellence and knowledge. Counter guy said she knew what she was doing and what she wanted.

She bought herself her own SP101 and knew why.

So, I have been waiting to update this post so I could keep the positive attitude. The day I posted this was a good day. Sadly, the night following this post didnt follow suit. To make a long story short not even two hours after the original post I was threatened by a contractor at a house I am moving into and was almost forced to make use of my new weapon (Thanks to all those that praise situational awareness especially Lennyjoe). Then on the 253rd round this new gun surprised me with a broken slide release lever (I wouldnt buy any italian made 96's any time soon if I were you guys). On a positive note I talked to a lady named Emily down at Beretta who has 2 replacement pieces on their way to me right now and by the end of this week this gun should be back to operational. Thanks to everyone for their nice replies and once I get this gun back in one piece I will get some pics up.
