Do I really need a S&W model 12?

You are correct on that count. The model 12 that started this thread was gone the next time I went to the gun store I salved my wounds by picking up a 4" M13. While it is not as lightweight as the M12, it shoots (and carries) real well! I still am keeping my eyes out for a 4" M12 RB though.
