I always thought the Colt Python barrels had a progressive riffling. The rifling got progressively faster the further down the barrel the bullet went.
Edit:
I guess the gain twist rifling was only used in the Cold percussion revolvers.
Hi...
I have several Dan Wesson revolvers and they are all very accurate including the .375SuperMag. I don't know if it is the tensioned barrel or the sights but whatever it is it works.
Of all of my revolvers, by caliber the Dan Wessons are consistently the most accurate in .22LR, .41Magnum and. 44Magnum. I don't own a 357Magnum Dan Wesson but I do have a .357SuperMag which is quite accurate. I never bought a Dan Wesson in .357Magnum because I have a S&W 686 Silhouette Model that is stunningly accurate with a variety of bullet weights.
I don’t change that one very often, I ordered it to be my IDPA gun and I might shoot a season of CDP or a season of ESP, the barrels just cut out replacement of the expensive parts.
I will say this, it’s a hell of a lot easier and faster to swap out those parts than it is to fit two different slides to the same frame, like I did on this STI full length frame I used commander slide lengths on for this ESP/Open set up. Matching the first set is easy, as usual, but adding the second, without compromising the fit of the first, isn’t as easy as it might seem.
If there is any caliber I want to shoot, I generally have a number of them to choose from. I don’t even go to local matches without a backup firearm in the caliber I am shooting that day.
