Do you avoid certain states, because of their gun laws?

In reality or hypothetically, would say no to a trip to a state that has less than acceptable gun laws. Consider the super bowl, a best friend's (from your childhood) wedding, Disney Land with children or grand kids. Would you say, "Sorry, I can go their because of their oppressive government."

I of course would visit D.C., because of it historical and political importance, but find myself avoid trips to California and other states.

Haven't needed to yet, but it's possible. Let's see what happens in November. I wouldn't move to a state that had worse gun laws than where I live now.

The only way I go to NY, Maryland, CA, NJ, MA is if I'm paid to go. Unfortunately it does happen every couple of years :(

Refuse to visit? Not necessarily.

Refuse to live there? Durn skippy.

My thoughts exactly. There's too much to see in this country, and even more in the rest of the world, to let stupid carry laws get in my way of seeing them. OTOH, I have a friend who lives in Illinois, and I just moved within reasonable driving distance of him. I'll have him come see me because I don't like going on long road trips without my pistol. Ordinarily, I'll just lock it up when I enter a commie state, but I think it would still be illegal for me to have it in IL without a FOID.

I also grew up in MD and return a few times a year. I'm willing to leave the gun at home for a week to see my family once or twice a year.

I went on vacation to Virginia last year to visit family and I specifically got asked if I wanted to go to Washington DC and I said I would rather avoid the murder capital of our country. I wish I could avoid california but I am slowly working on that so yes I avoid certain states.

That.

There are definitely places I wouldn't live because of the prevailing attitudes of their governments (and not just on this issue, certainly). But I'll visit just about anywhere that seems interesting.

My wife and I just took a road trip on I-80 that took us through NE, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, NY, NJ, and CT.

I intentionally stopped in IN and IA for gas and food so I did not have to stop in IL. I won't even pee in that occupied territory.

I was able to legally carry in NE, IN, OH, and PA. I had to disarm in the other states. Good thing too, because I became a murderous lunatic the second I crossed state lines.

I moved out of California in large part because of their increasingly draconian and arbitrary gun laws. Their legislators honestly feel they are above the constitution.

kind of hard when you live in California

It's harder to find a state with more restrictive laws than those we have home grown. That will be changing with the results of Heller though.

I have family in the Chicago area. I go their once and ONLY once a year. I get in and get out. Can't stand the people or the criminals they elect to "govern" them. I refuse to spend any more time than is absolutely necessary in a place where not only don't the police "protect" you, but are a danger to public order and safety themselves, and where you are not allowed to protect yourself. When my mother dies, my trips to Chicago end, FOREVER.

For the longest time my wife wanted to move to Japan. Until I told her we would have to get rid of all of our guns. That changed her mind.

I live in Arizona, and I try to avoid California if I can. Unfortunately, it's such a great vacation destination, particularly when you can drive. And for those of you uninitiated to the wonders of traveling to California, it's not only firearms you must leave at home. Forget about knives, batons, pepper spray, or any other means of self-defense. In other words, as an out-of-state visitor, you literally are not allowed to protect yourself in the crime-free(?) state of California. So forget the brass knucks, just bring money. If you don't believe me, just go to the California Attorney General's website - it's a real eye-opener.

It's a major factor. I won't outright refuse to go, but CA and NY are much lower on the list of states I'd like to visit because of their restrictive laws.

nope... this may come to a shock to some people, there are more important things in life then guns.

I wouldnt move to a place that has worse gun laws. On the other hand im not going to hurt myself by missing out on some of the great things america has to offer
