Do you buy safe queens?

Have any of you purchased "safe queens?" That is, pistols that you knew beforehand wouldn't be carry or fired very much? You purchased just because you liked the way it looked, just to say you own one, and/or to be a family heirlooms?

If so, what was it, and why did you buy it?

No and if I ever get my dream gun , a Singer Sewing Machine 1911 , I'll shoot it and carry it regularly !

Not with the intent. Prior I had collected knives and there was little to no joy in just having them around to fondle. Most the knives don't appreciate applicably to be significant. Fun to me was being able to use what ever it is. I don't have the wallet depth to buy for those instances so collectibles don't cross my path.

No safe queens here, all of my guns are shot and used. With having said that I'll also say that if I had the disposable income I would probably be loaded up with pristine blue steel and walnut revolvers, 1911's, high powers, and bolt actions that I would gaze at solely to admire the craftsmanship.

I've bought new guns that I've had no intention of ever firing. I don't call them "safe queens," though.

I've got two "safe queens" but I didn't buy them. Neither is really in good shooting condition but they belonged to my Dad so I want to keep them for sentimental reasons.

Other than those, I would not buy a gun that I didn't intend to shoot. I can understand some people are collectors but that's not an activity I'm interested in.

I have some that I don’t shoot much; my great uncles old duty m&p .38 that’s nostagic; a Helwan 9mm and an AMT backup .380 that just aren’t ergonomic for my hands and not fun to shoot; a super red hawk .454 that kicks a lot, etc.

They’re not intentional safe queens... but they can be considered them I guess.

Stay safe!

There’s a rule in my house that if it won’t get used it don’t get bought. I know some of my guns are not going to see much action, but I also know that I’m going to have my fun with them. I don’t buy “safe queen” grade guns though, and I certainly don’t buy new very often.

No but I don't have a safe either ;)

So far all the guns I buy are purchased so I can shoot the spit out of em. Personally, I can't see myself buying a gun that I wouldn't want to shoot. That's just not the way I roll I suppose.

No, because I really, truly stink as a collector. If it's nice enough to warrant "safe queen" status, I'll fail miserably at resisting the urge to shoot it.

Almost. I have a 28-2, 29-2 and 14-3 all in 95+ condition. I shoot them some, but rarely. But I have several other guns in those calibers.

I have had quite a few. Mostly Colts.....Pythons & Diamondbacks and a couple of SAA's. Most of them are gone now. I have a hard time putting anything in my safe now that i'm not going to shoot.

I’ve never had the desire to buy anything that I didn’t plan on using for its intended purpose. If I want to just look at guns, I can window shop, go to a gun show or a museum. Much cheaper than buying one I’m not going to use, and saves me money to use on one that I will shoot.

No way. I am not running a museum. I like shooting guns.
Never buy them with the intent of them being Safe Queens. They wind up becoming Safe Queens, as they are shelved for repairs, maintenance, modifications, or awaiting special usage.

Yes, I knowingly buy safe queens of which many never get used....why?....because every gun I own doesn't need to be a defensive tool or have an intended use.

The safe queens as you call them, were acquired as speculative investments and for my enjoyment. On those two points alone, they have exceeded my expectations.

My G17 was a safe queen from the start. I wanted my first gun, wasn't sure what to get for CCW, and I just wanted a full size service pistol. Too many war movies in childhood I guess.... ;) It's now a HD gun.

My G26 ended up becoming a part time safe queen, as I was forced to realize that no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't stand carrying it IWB. A couple hours a couple times a week, perhaps, but not full time. Now, it only rides OWB when / if possible.

Have been thinking about getting a revolver for a while now, can't make up my mind between a LCR for carry vs a larger frame for fun. If I go with a larger one I wouldn't even bother getting a holster for it.

Contact Roy Huntington at Guns magazine about your holster concerns. I know they’ve done a few articles on the subject. I personally use a Galco Highrise for my CCWing.

Thanks, but what I meant was that if I buy a fullsize revolver for fun, I won’t even bother trying to carry it.

It isn't really my style to but a new gun and not shoot it. I'm not really into old/collectable stuff so no safe queens for me. For now ayway lol.

Yes I buy safe queens in the sense that I buy guns that I will not carry or use for hard hunting use, but I shoot all my guns. I wouldn’t own it if I wasn’t going to shoot it.
