Do you change the handgun and equipment you carry depending on the situation?

I carry different pistols for different times of the year because I dress differently. Spring summer & fall, when I wear a untucked shirt I generally carry my Colt Mustang at my abdomen. When more formal either shoulder holster or small of the back … for the rare occasions I’m wearing a tucked in button down shirt without a jacket I have a belly band or in an ankle holster.

If I need more concealment I’ll use a smaller gun, and when it’s real hot I’ll carry a smaller one.

Long as it passes my “good enough to carry” scores on some drills, it’s fine, but the 365xl is as small as I go.

Yep, different EDC depending on clothing I'm wearing and depending what I'm doing.
Out in public, shopping, etc., probably a 9mm and and if wearing boots, probably a back up .380

Going fishing...probably gonna have .357 with at least 3rds of rat shot and one speed loader.
Working in the garden... might have a .380. or 9mm
Bushhogging, cutting wood, fixing fences, hunting... probably gonna have my CZ52.
Going to Memphis...10mm edc, 9mm back up, .380 second backup.:what:

My situation doesn't change much. At the farm or going into town. G19 and a spare, Refuge Medical pocket med kit, flashlight and a little Bic. Belt holster at work, appendix with mag carrier attached going to town. I get up in the AM, put on my carry handgun.. the same one, every day, decidedly boring, points perfectly from muscle memory, no need to try and recall ......is this the decocker?
If I go hunting, same gun, just add rifle.

While I sometimes carry my Colt Detective Special with gym clothes, my normal carry (and I carry ALL the time, even at home) is an M1911. I have a two compartment cell phone pouch. The inner compartment contains the phone, the outer contains two 10-round extended magazines.

OK. Out of curiosity. In what ways do you envision using a Glock 19 in a hunting scenario? I ask because I opted for the Redhawk in 44 Mag. Most guys I know who carry an autoloader hunting carry the 10mm Glock or XD. I'm not sure what role a 9mm plays in the woods. It seems to me to be either too big or too small.

I don't envision any circumstances other than a put down shot for finishing a downed game animal.
The last sentence of the reply may have aluded to something...... just add rifle..... I always carry the handgun. No matter what activity

Well. 9mm is probably too big for small game (perhaps not. I've heard of guys using downloaded 38 spl on rabbits) and not big enough for bears. As far as putting down a wounded game animal, I wonder how that plays out in states with caliber restrictions. And why wouldn't you just use your rifle for that?

Anyway. I was just curious what your thought process was.

Kinda, maybe, sorta.

I change the handgun I carry based on the whim for that day or some task that requires a particular handgun and that also determines things like holster choices and additional ammo. For example I changed out the sights on my Walther CCP M2+ 380 and so that meant I carried it to the range which meant I chose a holster for that particular handgun and was having some hip pains so chose an OWB rather than IWB holster. Plus I loaded up several additional magazines to make sure I had enough ammo in case more adjustments were needed.

Ok sir, I can hopefully lay my thoughts out.
Ist thing, I never go anywhere without my dedicated carry pistol. It goes on right after pants are applied and before coffee. Regardless of what plans, tasks or other agendas, I carry my defensive handgun.
If thats, say, hunting bunnies for instance, i mearly grab my haversack and whichever particular rifle im going to take. I am not a handgun sport hunter so thst part is easy. If big game is my focus, different load out, different rifle, defensive pistol remains the same. Caliber restrictions have never bothered me, as not pursuing game with one, a handgun, its irrelevant. Using the rifle is of course just fine to humanely end a downed creature, just always used a handgun, probably a throw back to trapping dsys.
We agree, a 9mm is not suitable for any active game hunting or for bear defence either, thats why I have a rifle. Years back when I ranched around big bears I alwzys had .45 colt handgun and a saddle rifle of the same flavor. But things change and their are no grizzlies around here.

I paid dearly for the NRA Life Member money clip.

But you're willing to throw it away?

Perhaps I misunderstood what I read but you said you were willing to throw the cash away in an attempt to avoid a shooting.

What are you going to do when they pick up that money clip and see that it says NRA and assume that you have a gun because of it?

If we're trying to avoid a shooting it seems like investing 10 bucks in a plain, cheap money clip would be a lot better idea been walking around with something that says NRA on it.

I like the piece offering money clip. The NRA logo is not a terrible idea. Remember that most robbers are looking for a easy take. The don't want to rob anyone that is going to put up a fight.

My choice of carry changes depending on whether I'm Deer hunting or not. For obvious reasons! However I did shoot a Deer a few years ago with a 40 caliber Glock! It worked, but it was not planned. The opportunity just presented itself!
