Do you Download your magazines?

What the hell are you even talking about? I can consistantly hit a steel gong standing up at 200 yards with my XD40, I've come in first place in a few competitions my club has held. Where did I indicate that I hardly shoot? I could most certainly hit the threat.

I don't even worry about my magazines if they function.
Are you questioning my post? ETA: :)

C'mon ladies, there are more important things to argue about than mag springs and maintenance.

I wish I could "download" magazines... they get expensive to buy!

In all reality, no, I don't down-load my magazines, I fill them to capacity. I never know when I may need one of those down-loaded rounds.

I shoot with FIVETWOSEVEN all the time, and he can "consistently" hit a steel gong at 200 yards with his XD.

What he's not telling you is that the "gong" is the side of an old freighter about 1000 yards long and 50 yards high sitting in the canal behind the berm!

26" - 30" gong and yes it can be done. I was inspired by this video in fact. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2cnop15VA8&feature=channel_video_title If you think its impossible, than it shows your ignorance.

I never heard of "downloading" until now. Needless to say, I've never run into anyone who actually does it. If a magazine required 15, I'm putting in 15. Otherwise, I'm just wasting space and ammunition.

I carry a kimber custom II with 8 round magazines fully loaded and 1 in the chamber. I believe that magazines purpose is to give me as much ammo as I need to complete the task I have before me. I purposefully bought 3 high quality magazines when I bought this carry piece to set myself at ease about them functioning properly. I also take my carry piece out regularly (some what less now that I've seen the 45acp ammo go up to $24 for a 50 rounds box) and fire a few boxes of ammo through it to keep up my familiarity with the weapon. The practice you conduct with your weapon should help you keep tabs on any failure you have with the magazines. So I see downloading the magazines as somewhat of an unnecessary precaution.

I`m not sure if "clip-springs" were intended to stay fully flexed for.....ever.
Some clip springs may be less than quality type. Not all things are
created equally so shame on you if you got a weak spring.

This is more of a personal choice. Some keep them jammed up. While others may load less than a full clip. As long as it goes bang when /if you need it, all is good.

My dad said that's the way he did it in WWII. I've always downloaded my 15 and 30 round M1 Carbine mags by one. I didn't do a double blind test, but they seemed to work better that way. My rifle tended to hang on the first round with those big magazines. The 10 rounders worked fine fully loaded.

No and no.

I replace mag springs at recommended intervals. I load up to capacity, insert mag, chamber a round, drop mag, top off and test it. If it works, that's how I carry. Several thousand rounds through several different guns and mags and this works fine so I see no need to change.

I do have to mark my mags so I know which ones to change, I'm forgetful. I also keep about 10+ mags for the handguns I shoot often. 3 or 4 stay loaded to capacity with defensive rounds and the rest stay loaded to capacity with paper punchers. I've seen 8 page discussions on mags and quite frankly, people spend more time worrying and discussing mags than caring for and using them.

Load em to capacity if they function that way and use them till the manufacturer recommends spring replacements. It's not rocket science. :)

The only mags I download are AR mags, 28 in a 30, but only to make sure they seat easily when the bolt is forward. I have seen guys at 3 gun matches do a tac load, and not get the mag seated, the look on their faces when they shoot the round in the chamber, and the mag falls out of the gun is priceless. Carry gun mags are loaded full, most of us will never fire our guns in self defense, but I for one want my gun fully loaded in that unlikely event.

I put 20 in a thirty round mag on my AR. The only reason I do it is because (A) I bought a bunch of surplus 30 rounders and (B) the ammo I shoot comes in boxes of 20. Once the ammo comes in boxes of thiry....I will load thirty.

Just in my XDm 40, I keep 15 in it, dang thing rattles when its loaded to its max (16)????

I owned one of those and sold it after about 1000 rounds or so. It did the same thing. I found that if I taped the back of the magazine lightly against my palm, they all seated firmly and it quit rattling.

I do that with all my mags anyway to assure all cartridges are properly seated. I guess it's an OC thing.

That and all of those wonderful 80's and 90's movies that featured soldiers in Vietnam who always loaded an ar mag and tapped it against their helmet before seating it probably has some affect.

Nope, tapped, slapped banged and pounded. Still rattles with 16 in it, quiet and tight with 15???
