If you’ve been around for awhile, you will. Hopefully, newcomers can learn by our mistakes….But why this obsession? Most holster makers sell us on the “new holster for every new gun” syndrome that leads us to box of leather with expensive prices and limited use.
My suggestion is to take a hard look at belt-slides, a.k.aYaqui” holsters. Especially true if you prefer OWB. I’ve found that they will accommodate many style-model pistols, barrel lengths being inconsequential, with excellent concealment, and a nice tight hug to the body with a low price bordering on the obscene. The biggest mistake we make is failing to consider the extra weight with some of those monstrosities out there. It's bad enough carrying a full-size pistol without lugging some of those hard-shelled, horse harnesses' they call holsters.
Of course, there are instances where it would be inappropriate. The LEO with an unconventional look and the exposed weapon’s barrel would be subject to damage by the nature of his duties. Also, hikers and campers: a full-coverage holster would better suit the rough environment.
Any thoughts?
These two holsters accomodate 7 of my autoloaders...:)

...

Kinda, but I was lucky.. Less is more, is a truth..

My main concern was what IWB holster to get, and ya all know they vary in price from 35 dollars and UP..

After reading many, many, stories about different makes and models, prices, and negative this or that, along with the same, they're great, work for me, etc., I just took a chance on a #15 Uncle Mikes IWB holster.. And it is the the slimmest of any, so painting is at a min, size, width, wise.

Got to say, for under 15 bucks, it fits both my Beretta Px4 40cal and my Sig P229R CT 9mm, and it doesn't mark the guns in anyway, along with, it can be put SOB, IWB, inside front, inside any pocket, and can be moved quickly for driving, etc.

Holds like glove, yet draws like, well, as fast as you can pull it..

So, I got lucky, less is more, and is true in my case, in more than one way.

My other 1 clip-on, 2 belt, are all OWB, one, Uncle Mikes (clip-on) also hold one's extra mag, for both guns, along with 2 small leather mag holder/s, clip on's,

LMAO, looks like I'm an Uncle Mike's rep, but really, I'm not. Just start small, smart/less is more, and work your way up and hopefully you'll avoid the closet full of nice leather holsters that were too stiff, un-comfy, too hard to use, marked up your gun/s, break-in is killing ya, etc..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and for CCW, IWB holsters, no one's gonna see it anyway, least that's the idea.. lol

IMHO

Where's the fun in that? One of my main excuses for buying new handguns is to have something to fill the various holsters :D

I've never worn out a holster. My take is unless you plan on carrying a gun, don't waste your money on a holster. I have a couple Uncle Mikes that are flexible enough for a number of different models that I have for trips to the woods. I also have leather holsters for the guns that I'm most likely to carry afield. As far as CCW goes, try to get it right the first time. You can spend lots of money trying to find the right holster rig. And yes, I have brand new holsters that I have never carried a gun in.

I think that I have two boxes full of holsters, including a Yaqui for a double stack, a Yaqui for a single stack, and a silly little nylon "fits everything" belt slide.

When you are left handed you tend to buy any LH holster that you find on sale, sometimes even when you don't presently own a pistol that will fit into it. :)

NOPE

the only holsters i have are the one my barretta bed auto is in and the bianchi nylon holtser and belt set i got for my model 27........

The fact I can carry different lengths of similar weapons was a big reason why I bought a DeSantis Mini Slide and Galco COP Slide Thumbreak. They both work very well with my G26, and eventually a G19 or G23 if I ever get around to it.

Yes, I do have a box-full of holsters....forgot how much I had in these till you brought it to my attention. Rough count.....25-30.

I have all mine JAMMED into the free range bag S&W sends when you buy a new pistol . I have some unversal utility holster but I tend to have 2 or 3 holsters per pistol :uhoh: . As a sideline question , who owns more holsters than pants or shirts ? :scrutiny:

Rent A holster

My club shooting range rents guns.
I think renting holsters to try for a week or so for CCW makes sense.
Try before you buy.
Or for competion use they could rent IDPA or USPSA holsters.
Everyone is built different and our clothing, jobs and such, need differant holsters.

When I first got into concealed carry, I purchased ONE gun, a Glock 26. And ONE holster, a Blade-Tech UCH (kydex IWB tuckable).

That was 7 years ago, and I am still using both.

You may hate me now.

Nope.
Never have.

All my life "try before you buy" was the suggestion, and practiced ideology .
So I and others would try guns and equipment out before we bought them.

In assisting folks, I /we still share "try before you buy". So folks all get together, especially ladies , and try, use, borrow and find out for sure what works for them, before they make a purchase.

At the moment I own 1 holster and one holster only.
Recent events resulted in my all holsters, including back-ups being stolen.

Life is Life, stuff happens. So I borrow a holster if and when I need one at this time.

You may hate me now.
I do....:) My problem was being a sucker for the Bargain box at many of the local gun shows...Visualizing & never having the particular pistol on hand for fit, I'm reformed now and gradually trying to weed out my collection....BTW, some of my old basketweave revolver holsters probably weigh as much as the modern SA compacts....

Yes I do. It can be hard to purchase a really good holster that fits you the exact way you want. I have a few that are ok for winter wear, but not good for carrying in the summer.

Not really, only one or 2 that are rarely used.

I decided early on that carrying IWB was simply not going to work for me, so I didn't have to chase my tail trying to find a holster that I knew wasn't going to work anyway.

i guess i got lucky, as it only took me 4 tries to find the right holster. the irst 2 were uncle mike's IWB, the second was some nylon piece that was an ambidextrous, OWB/IWB number w/a mag pouch. i finally found the perfect one, a bianchi minimalist belt holster for righthand carry.

Not yet but growing. I have 2 for my PT92, 3 for my PT140 and 2 for my P3AT. I also have one for my M85 I sold years ago but won't get rid of it as it gives me motivation to put something back in that holster.
Uncle Mikes used to seem like a good deal to me when I first started carrying 15+ years ago. I bought 1 and thought it was the biggest POS so I won't buy another. For $15 more you can get a Don Hume.

Like many, I have my share of holsters too. Mostly it came from trying a holster for CCW, realizing it wasn't quite right and trying another. I carry IWB and my body shape doesn't allow for many options, so I went through a lot of them trying to find the ones that worked best.

Yup... Of course, I have a dozen pistols. No real duplicates other than having both an IWB and OWB for two pistols. Oh, and I do have one custom 1911 holster that I rarely use any more.

Nope....I have about 50 handguns, and only carry 2 different ones. So right now, I carry my 225 in a galco, and my Rohrbaugh in my pocket. I gave all my old ones away, as I sold or didn't carry a particular firearm anymore.

Two big bins actually.:what: The wife is not thrilled. I accumulated them from 30 years of collecting. Amazing how many were picked up in trades, people just throw in the holster... Fine with me. I still dig through the bins occasionally to find something useful.;)
