If you’ve been around for awhile, you will. Hopefully, newcomers can learn by our mistakes….But why this obsession? Most holster makers sell us on the “new holster for every new gun” syndrome that leads us to box of leather with expensive prices and limited use.
My suggestion is to take a hard look at belt-slides, a.k.a “Yaqui” holsters. Especially true if you prefer OWB. I’ve found that they will accommodate many style-model pistols, barrel lengths being inconsequential, with excellent concealment, and a nice tight hug to the body with a low price bordering on the obscene. The biggest mistake we make is failing to consider the extra weight with some of those monstrosities out there. It's bad enough carrying a full-size pistol without lugging some of those hard-shelled, horse harnesses' they call holsters.
Of course, there are instances where it would be inappropriate. The LEO with an unconventional look and the exposed weapon’s barrel would be subject to damage by the nature of his duties. Also, hikers and campers: a full-coverage holster would better suit the rough environment.
Any thoughts?
