Do you insure,or carry a rider on your insurance for your firearms?
Could the gun grabbers use that info to go after your guns?
Any thoughts?

Paul

I do. The most expensive firearm I own is probably in the range of $600 or so, but I do own a number of things now whose value was well over the standard amount of stuff on my homeowner's policy. At least with my company (USAA) it's sort of expensive insurance (an extra $80 per year to add about $4k of insurance, when my homeowner's policy including rider for wife's jewelry was only $125 or so per year). But, I feel better having it, I'm not worried about USAA selling me out to the feds or whoever. Interestingly, USAA doesn't lower your rate for insuring firearms even if you have a gunsafe.

Yes, I have a specific amount of my insurance that goes toward guns. My insurance company doesn't have the makes/models, serial numbers, number of guns, or much incentive to help gun grabbers go after one of their customers. I'm not worried about it.

You could worry about the Gun Grabber boogie man until you get yourself sick:barf: . The government will just check their own records at the point of sale instead of trying to subpoena insurance records.

Anyway talk to your insurance agent. I did it and everything is covered. At this moment in time your more likely to lose your guns to theft or fire than the "Gun Grabbers". If that outlook changes, take them off your policy. Like others have said I gave no specific info on my guns.

Yes, I do.

I called my insurer and told her I have about #### dollars worth of firearms, and how much would be covered in a break-in, fire etc. She said I had a 1000 dollar max, and if I needed more, I'd need an appraisal for my sticks.

I typed up a list, like this:

Streetsweeper 12 ga. shotgun, 18" bbl, nite sites, 1992, SN ### $_______

Whipper Pistol, 25 cal, 4" bbl, Satinless 1967, SN ##### $__________

Sporterized '98 mauser 8x67.5mm, no SN, EZ view 4x scope curly maple manlichher style stock with buffalo dung trim and 4 lpi checkering $_________

...left space for handwritten comments, made copies, took the firesticks to my friendly local used gun man, and we talked about how much the replacements would cost. He said he'd charge me 10 bucks for an insurance appraisal.

He set me straight on a few misconceptions, and I told him what I "knew" a few were worth. He ended up doing it free because he liked my list. (He now has a few he appraised, and I have a few of his!!!)

I took my list to the agent, she said (i dont recall exact, but) 65 dollars a year added to my policy to cover nearly 10 thousand worth of wood and steel. :what:

I paid it and continue to pay it yearly and need to do another list, since the numbers have changed.

I'd be a fool not to pay it.

State Farm Renters

is my insurance and they will cover up to $5000 - I live in OK - and I did not have to provide any information.
I do have pictures or each weapon including serial numbers etc and they are stored on my computer , and a thumb drive.
I have also emailed the pics and details to my brother for a backup copy

State Farm didn't ask for any information up front, just said for us to keep a copy of it in a safe place, so we just have a list of makes, models, and SN's that we try to keep up to date. They're just covered under normal homeowners with them.

Liberty Mutual will only cover me to 2K without appraisals... i have by my own figures nearly 5X that amount... Just need to find someone to appraise them in my area.. Honestly... Most of my firearms are sentimental hand-me-downs and worht much more emotionally than they are physically... But they wouldn;t let me just specify a rider value and call it good... I don't quite have enough cases for everything i own so getting them somewhere to have an "expert" look them over is kinda difficult...

My home insurance covers up to $2000, and I have a $5000 rider attached and it is fairly cheap, will have to look at my policy and see how much I pay.

We don't have a very expensive collection, so we're covered under our regular homeowner's policy unless I get a lot more money in the gun budget...
