I've shot .223 in my Rock River AR-15 that is marked 5.56 without any problems.

Just for clarity, you can always shoot .223 in a 5.56mm chamber. You can't necessarily shoot 5.56mm in a .223 chamber because it has a shorter throat.

The increased pressure causes cycling issues in gas guns. In a bolt gun, I don't think it would be as much of an issue.

My Bushy says .223/5.56 on the lower receiver, and I got no idea what the chamber actually is, so I guess I shoot both in both.

The lower receiver doesn't matter. IT would be the chamber in the upper that makes the differnce

Thanks for the clarification sir!

Yes, both my 12FV and the 110FP that it was a replacement for happened to like Lake City fodder best of ALL factory loading I found, with one exception Black Hills reman'ed "blue box" which is of course usually loaded on LC brass.

I think this point needs to be made again, adding that most ARs come with the 5.56 specs, which, as has been pointed out, can easily take the .223 round. So all those "my AR does quite nice with both" comments are pointless for the conversation since that isn't quite the issue/question.

It's the non-military firearms which are specifically chambered for the .223 that come into question when firing the 5.56. Most manufacturers of .223 rifles will tell you not to do it. SAAMI says don't do it. I don't do it. It's not worth it to me. But then we reload most of our .223/5.56 ammo so it's not really pertinent to my shooting practices.
