Rasch: "It's free and you get a nifty certificate from DoD."

The Duke of Doubt is not affiliated with the described course, nor will he be issuing any certificates.

Most of the units are multiple guess scenario-based. Anyone with an ounce of common sense should be able to finish this in 20 minutes and do reasonably well. I don't think it's even pass/fail... just "completed".

Pretty much a waste of time... certificate has places for signatures, which are blank.

If you do make an incorrect response you can go back and select the answer they suggest. I read every word and it took about 30 minutes. Don't care about certificate; it does bring out some good points. Just knowing one of the points might save you from being in a life threatening situation

stevemis, I could care less about the printed out goodie with blank signatures. Ive broken off more rust since 9-11 in a little over an hour reading this material and remembering many things Ive forgotten.

It's worth it. Remember it's the attack scenarios and small answers that really apply to real life situations. I have been on bases at Condition Charlie in the past and dont like the experience. But off base? ech... wild west.

Good stuff, except for this part in one of the case studies:

"The plotters' other activities should have raised the suspicions of other vigilant people. For example, they frequented a firing range in Pennsylvania and practiced attack tactics at paintball facilities. They collected handguns, shot guns, and semiautomatic assault rifles and engaged in firearms training in the Pocono Mountains. However, no observers reported these suspicious activities."

Except for the locations, I've done most of that, as have a lot of people here.

Unless they were acting very strange, what would there be to report?

I wonder if anybody have taken the course as O. Bin Laden and got the certificate. That'd merit a frame for sure.

Well if OBL was online that long and all of our sniffing aint got him, tough.

Hell, He communicates by audio tape, then again when was the last time we heard from the old (Expeletive deleted not THR material)

Actually I was thinking of taking the course as OBL as a practical joke, but then decided against that for the reason you've mentioned...

Is this true? It looks kinda catchy because of the website content. It is also asking my social security number. The site looks doubtful if this is really a DOD website. :(

Yeah, but it's not a test. ATFP certs II and above are conducted through physical drills and such (for my former commands, anyway.)

This is the answer to the mandate that everyone in DOD is trained in basic anti-terrorism.

Yeah, I took an earlier version of this before I retired in 03. You were supposed to email the certificate to a designated unit action officer and I understand in some units the commander actually signed them and presented them to the soldiers. IIRC we had a 90 day suspense to get everyone through the online course and then it became one of those complete upon reporting to your new unit requirements.

Is there a level II?

There was when I was in. Again if I recall correctly Level II had to be completed before traveling overseas.

This is a standard box to check for all deploying contractors, govt./DoD civilians. Usually an annual requirement. I've taken it several times myself. If anything, it increases situational awareness. Common sense stuff mostly, but is a good reminder.

Sorry, I forgot I posted this a couple of days ago... Sheeesh.

Yes there is a level II and that requires a more thorough sign up. I signed up, but you have to use IE. I, of course, use Firefox. So it appears that I have to try again. It is a 14 hour computer based course, you can do it at your own speed. You do not get to do the physical portion, unless you meet certain requirements (work for DoD) (Gov't not the Duke).

As I learn more I will be happy to keep you informed.

Now if I could only remember how IE works...

Albert
