Does any one know what this pistol is and who made them.

Another name for the type is "Muff Pistol". Because the barrel is screwed on, and the bullet was larger than the bore, the things had a surprising bite for their size. I think it is neat that Dixie Arms makes a kit. I don't have any of my old 70's and 80's Dixie Catalogs, but I am sure Turner Kirkland was selling them then, if not back in the 1950's.

Dixie doesn't make anything. That one was made by Classic Arms and they've been out of business for years. DGW does sell a screw barrel kit but it's a steel frame made by Perdersoli.

Thank you

They along with the three barrel duckfoot were very popular in the late '70s-'80s.

If that is indeed the new orleans ace
from back then, the barrel isn't designed
to be removed for each shot
There's supposed to be a metal ramrod
that goes into ferrules inleted into the
barrel, and is loaded like a conventional
muzzleloading peestol
Had one of those years ago

You have a nice range 'toy'.

Today of course, these are just fun range/plinking guns. However, their original facsimiles were scary considering in their time, a scratch could prove fatal if it became infected. Just imagine a dirty patch or ball only penetrating an inch or so but infects the wound. The card game or saloon girl just became un-fun!

I expect even though this belly gun was diminutive, when it was pulled, even Yosemite Sam would flash his "BACK OFF" sign. Who wants to die the slow painful death of infection?

Yeah
Not to mention dragging a piece of
dirty clothing into the wound covered
with dried sweat and no telling what
kind of dirt and animal manure, etc. etc.
