Does anybody remember the specifics of and the timeline of the '94 AWB? It was too long ago for me to remember, but I have some questions:

What precipitated it? How long did it take to pass and how much time did gun owners have to prepare for it? In other words was there a grace period after the law was signed and if so for how long? I am mainly wanting to know to be ready for a worst case scenario and because I am wanting to buy some supplies that would be banned if one or more of the bills pass. I cannot buy right now though, because of finances and because of all the company backlogs.

It wasn't a smooth process and it barely passed. It had bi-partisan support and even Ronald Reagan came out in favor of it. It also wasn't a bill by itself. It was attached to a much larger crime bill that included good pro law enforcement measures and expanded punishments for criminals.

All I remember is that there was plenty of time for me to stock up on high capacity magazines... when I could find them, before the ban went into effect.... seemed like 6 months or so. I remember the manufacturers where churning them out like crazy before the ban went into effect, and the LGS could sell (at a premium) what ever they had in stock.

What happened before really doesn't tell you a thing about what could happen this time. Keep a positive attitude, write your representatives and support the NRA, GOA or whatever organization you believe will support your 2nd Amendment rights.
