Excel spreadsheet here. "Make/Model/Caliber/Serial No./Description/Price paid/Replacement cost/Notes" are my columns. :)

I use an excel spreadsheet, but I use the google editor. If you go into Gmail and click 'documents' you can make and edit spreadsheets right in the browser, and they are stored on the google servers. The advantage to this is that I can get to it anywhere, and it's guaranteed safe even if my house burns down. I'm interested in checking this gunsafe software out, but as the other poster pointed out, the site is password protected. Any idea what's up?

Edit I found a workaround if you want to grab the gunsafe software: ftp://ftp2.somanyroads.org/gunsafe/GunSafe28.zip

Make sure you keep the data in another format too, since it looks like they might be closing shop...

I took digital photos of all my guns and annotated the photo with serial number, value, etc, it's on my harddrive and also have some discs spread around.

My friend was a burglary victim last winter they took safe and all! He had very carefully inventoried his guns with serial numbers, etc, and put the list in the safe!:(

Alternately, you can just email yourself the excel file. Then it's also stored on Google's server. Since my Insurance Agent is my cousin, and also a gunnie, I just email him my inventory if it changes.

I keep track of all my guns and have a list of serial numbers stored on my computer, I also keep all my original bill of sales in a safe location.

For both insurance and security reasons I keep all my gun information stored safely away. When you have thousands upon thousands of dollars invested in a gun collection I don't see a reason not to.

Yes, I keep a very detailed record of what I own.

And I also keep the Dealer's Record of Sale of each of my guns. I can't trust the government with my personal records.

Or maybe it's a military/LE thing where I have a habit of keeping all my personal files.

I started when I got my C&R license. I got a couple of the bound books, one for C&R purchases, another for firearms I had prior to C&R plus non C&R purchases.

I at one time had some "gunsafe" software but decided that I did not want the info in a computer.

paid $4 at kinko's to print 100 pages (front and back) of a spreadsheet that lists all the info I want. They also bound them. Had to do it for my C&R and decided to have them make another so I could keep track of my non c&r guns. Very pleased and am more comfortable knowing I have all the info organized in a book, whether in case of theft, cops tracking down a gun I sold etc

Wow! Most of you guys are way more organized than I am. This is something I've been meaning to do for a long time now but haven't done it yet. I should probably bump it up higher on my "to do list".

Yes Microsoft Excel.
Catagories include:
Make
Model
Serial Number
Caliber
Barrel Length
2-3 Photos
Date of Purchase
Place of Purchase
Price Paid

I keep a copy at home and in the bank Safety Deposit Box. I also like many keep paper records of DROS, sales reciepts, all firearm accessories and ammo purchases.

After the 1994 earthquake I've learned to keep a digital record of everything I own for insurance purposes. Also good for theft, and e-bay should you ever want to sell anything.

Yes Excel Spreadsheet for all as well as a bound book for the C&R stuff (of course). Copies of the spreadsheet at work and home.

I did not keep detailed records before, just serial numbers for insurance purposes. Then I read the thread "Listening to Katrina" now I have my "stuff together".

You better at least a keep a list of serial numbers.

I keep a slightly more detailed list in case I need to claim insurance although the NRA plan is very discreet if your collection is under $10,000 ($20,000?). Unfortunately, their policies on magazines and ammunition seem to be lacking. It is a good deal for someone on a budget.

I also keep detailed records...I just had to get them all together to "update" my insurance policy...I will be spending the next few days inputting everything into "GUNSAFE"...thanks for the .exe file! Great Program, and I will print them off when completed and submit to the insurance company. I have always thought it important to keep the records of my "toys"!

Though I don't need to keep a list of all my items in an A/D log, I tend to keep everything updated and detailed in three copies - one at the bank, one in the safe, and one in a secure location with the insurance company.

Yes, typically. Got a divorce about a year ago so I took my guns to my farm which my brothers and cousin have access to. had all of my guns inventoried except my brand new mossberg 835, rem 870, Marlin 22 mag and my AR-15. Wouldn't you know it, those were the ones my cokehead cousin stole. I can't prove he stole them but there was no forcible entry and the aforementioned people are the only ones with keys. I can't report them stolen b/c I have no serial numbers. Just hope they don't show up in a crime with my fingerprints on them. That would be a bad way to recover them and I would have some explaining to do.:fire:

list

I keep a detailed list of all my firearms in microsoft spreadsheet; item, model, sn, cost, value, and any special details. I downloaded the gunsafe file and will look at it for use. Thanks.

I don't keep written records, but I do take very detailed photographs and store those on a secure site on the internet.

I figure if they steal my guns they will also steal my computer.

And if the house catches on fire, my computer is gone in that situation as well.
