Does anyone have a dedicated home defense handgun?

How many out there have a handgun that is only used as a home defense gun and not a carry gun? If you use it for targets, that is fine but what I am asking is, do you have a handgun that you use for home defense but not for carry?

If you do, what is it? This is on the handgun board so don't list shotguns or rifles.

I keep a Beretta 92fs with nite sights and a factory pre-ban mag. I don't carry it anymore because it is too large but it makes a perfect home defense gun.

Our house gun is a S&W 10 loaded with 2 Glaser Safety Slugs and 4 Federal Classic +Ps .38. Its the goto gun handgun of the house (well my goto is my CZ, but everyone else gos for the S&W).

F.I.E. TITAN TIGER 4in barrel .38 spec +P

I may have other guns backing it up but this revolver has been my primary "home defense" weapon for many years.

Mine is a Ruger Speed Six. I keep a flashlight right next to it.
It is actually my wife's gun; she is familiar with it and isn't afraid to use it. It requires only gross motor skills to operate when awakened at 2:00 in the morning.

No dedicated HD gun here...whenever I take my carry gun off the belt, it goes on the nightstand for the evening.

We have a hidden gun locker in the bedroom that is the dedicated HD area for lack of a better term. It contains a P225, a P229 (9mm), a Surefire and a canister of OC. Every night before we go to bed it gets unlocked.

firestar, you have a beretta? ain't that outta your price range? ;)

my colt 1991 combat commander with wraparound rosewood grips is my dedicated HD gun. also have my CCW gun (the RAP) by me at night also.

will probably move eventually to RAP and Mossy once my wife gets more comfortable with those.

Several J frame and K frame Smith & Wesson revolvers scattered throughout the house.

Old Timer - S&W 586

Newcomer - USP 45 (a couple hundred more rounds to go at the range and it will be HD ready)

S&W 686 (.357/.38 L-frame) is the deidicated house gun - always kept with the 2 speed loaders ready- Nice gun and accurate.

Kimber Pro Carry CDP.

It took me a long time to find one, and even though it is my favorite single stack, I rarely carry it.

It does range time occasionally and stays in the house the rest of the time.

S/W 4506, 2 spare 8 Round mags

Good question firestar.

Lot of (most) folks don't carry at all, yet many still seem to buy small or compact handguns for the "dedicated sit in drawer" till needed task.

I guess you can make somewhat of an arguement that a shorter barrell makes for easier weapon retention, but still seems a lot of advantages of a full size gun are overlooked in favor of the single advantage of concealabilty that even the purchaser admits will never be used.

Of course in this state we can't carry, but even if we could I think the Ruger 97 would be a little big for carry (for me- I know others do carry it) but 9 rounds of .45 is pretty good for home defense!

Blueduck, Ayoob makes a good argument for the shorter HGs being harder to take from someone. I usually keep a J frame around for unknown visitors - sits in the back pocket just fine when I open the door. Ten (+) years and nobody has noticed.

Beretta 92D Centurion in the bedroom and a S&W 2 1/2" 66 in my home office. I am thinking of switching out the Beretta for my Glock 23.

Dedicated HD weapon:

Springfield Champion 1911-A1 w/spare mag, Rem 230-GR Golden Sabres.
IF we ever get ccw passed in Ohio, will become carry/HD weapon.
