Does Anyone Like Ruger Single Actions?

Aren't the Super Blackhawks a little bit larger?

I have extra-large hands, and the bigger they are, the better they fit me. Plus my FiL already reloads 44 special... :)

With your Ruger collection you can't have too much elaboration! Thanks for sharing so many fine looking single action revolvers.

Does anyone have advice for some kind of finish for the alloy frame of the 22? I cold blued the barrel, but I'm not sure what to do about the rest of it.

You might look at DuraBlue from Lauer Weaponry, the Duracoat folks. It looks promising.

I just applied it to a Super Blackhawk grip frame in the white. Applied easily, looks good. I have no idea how durable it is yet but Duracoat has a reasonably good reputation.

Yeah, I like em quite a bit.

I only have one at the moment, a 7.5" .45 Colt, but I'm in the process of getting it set up like I want it. My grips should be on the way by the end of January and then I'll find some good leather for her.

I hope to add a .357 or .44 Special Blackhawk sometime this year.

My first handgun in 1979 was a SBH .44 mag. it's still my primary whitetail gun.

It appears you don't have an issue with the Dragon frame. It's my favorite.

My first pair of CAS revolvers were two original blued .45 Colt Vaqueros with factory-fitted .45 ACP extra cylinders. I put some antiqued Tru-Ivory grips on each; they're great shooters. I picked up a nearly unused Ruger Blued Old Army last year for $265...best gun bargain ever. It now wears imitation buffalo horn grips of black Micarta and is a great smoker. My load is 30 gr. of Pyrodex P and a Hornady .457 lead ball. Great load, great gun.

Ruger makes wonderful SA revolvers...for durability, strength and function, they can't be beat.

And...here are some of mine...

I have added a few more to the group; I will have to get a new photo soon.

For covering aluminum, I use "Aluminum Black" made by Birchwood Casey. Make sure all of the grease is off and follow the directions. It works well for me but it is tougher to use than other chemicals. If you use it incorrectly you will not get good results. YMMV

Ric! That is a sweet revolver!!

I have always had a fondness for argued single actions. I truly enjoy them. Currently my safe only had two. A NM 357 Mag with a 4.6" bbl and a Talo Super Blackhawk with the 3.75" barrel in 44 Mag.

However I just put a stainless 4.6" flattop 44 special on layaway :)

Hmmm! Let's see:

Flattop BH 357 (3 digit serial number)
50th Anniversary 357 (the only one I bought new)
Single-Six convertible (early model before the transfer bar)
Super BH 44mag
BH 45 Colt/45 acp
Single-Six 32 H&R mag. (my favorite at the moment)
3 Ruger Old Armies, 1 stainless and 2 blued, all with 7.5" barrels (the finest C&B revolver ever mode IMHO)
stainless Vaquero, newer version, in 45 Colt (I use it for black powder cartridges)

I had a Single-Six with 9.5" barrel but like a damn fool sold it many years ago. I regretted it about 10 minutes after the sale.

They are comfortable, affordable, accurate, and completely reliable. And since I reload everything except the rim fire, I can make them feel like a popgun or a barn burner. They are also a good training tool.

First SA I ever bought was a well used 7.5" Super Blackhawk bicentennial. First clue it was from '76 was the big "Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty" up top. I love that it's a pre-warning label gun, and drives tacks (or nails).

Yeah, Ruger makes the best Single actions available IMHO. Always had a hankering for the Bearcat... now that Lipsey's shopkeeper might end up in my collection :)

Re: OP, "Yes".
I first owned a Ruger Single Six .22, and later got a Ruger BlackHawk .357 Magnum with a 9mm convertible cylinder. Thumbs up to both !:)

Oh, yes. I forgot I had an original Ruger BearCat .22. Neat little gun !

I currently have four Ruger single action revolvers: a Three Screw Single Six with a spare .22 Magnum cylinder, a Three Screw Blackhawk in .357, a Flattop Blackhawk in .44 Special, and a Vaquero in .45 Colt. All are great favorites of mine.

Herrett target grips made for the Ruger Single Six. Where did I get 'em? A real shot in the dark - A friend in California knew that I was looking for grips for my Ruger , saw the set in the photo at a gun show , bought them , and flipped them to me.

What are the odds?

A friend of mine has a set of grips very similar to those (I think they were made by Mustang Grips many years ago), on his Ruger Super Backhawk. Makes a huge difference in how comfortable it is to shoot that gun with full house loads.

While the original grips had a pleasing , single action appropriate appearance , I was irritated by the fact that my pinky was half on -half off.

Someone on this forum stated a while back that "pinky off" allowed the right amount of muzzle flip and absorbsion of recoil. While that may be true , and acknowledging that recoil is not an issue with .22lr , I was distracted with small grips. The larger Herrets really helped my accuracy.
