I think it would be neat to have the option of mounting an ACOG or holo sight on my M14 forward of the receiver but can't seem to find any manufacturers who provide something like the Ultimak rail for a medium-contour barrel. Does anyone know of such, or am I out of luck without a thinner barrel?

The Sage EBR only fits standard barrels.
The Troy/Fulton MCS is supposed (I say 'supposed' because I have no personal experience. It's clearly stated on the webpages for it) to fit all barrel types for the M1A.

This is my CRAZY HORSE® US NAVY MK14 SEI MOD 0 built in 2004.
The medium heavy barrel was necked down to fit the stock.
This is a 2007 Mod 1 stock that is factory made to accept a medium heavy barrel. Pictured with a standard profile barrel.
The easy way to spot a factory EBR that will accept a MH barrel is to count the screws holding the top rail in place.
5 screws will, 6 screws will not without modifications. The screw in question is located under the front of the EOTech in both pictures.
