Back in the mid eighties I bought what I think was a H&R single shot with a 18" barrel and a cut off stock. I think it was called the SOB or something to that effect. My buddy has it, said I can have it back. It looked kind of like this,
Back in the 20s or 30s Remington made something like it. They were pump guns. It was called the Special Police Gun Ithaca made the Auto & Burglar gun similar to the one pictured.
The Ithica Auto Burglar was a straight pistol gripped SXS chambered in 20 gauge with 10 inch barrels the B model lengthened the barrels to 12 1/2. Today these are considered NFA items.
I have seen various cut down H&R and others but don't recall any factory down like that. You can actually do a pistol grip on one by leaving just a bit more barrel.
I'm pretty sure The Remington Police Special would be NFA as well. Since it was a pistol grip gun.and a 12" barrel I had forgotten that the Ithaca was a SXS thanks.
In the 80s Ithaca also made a stake out gun. A Model 37 w/ pistol grip and a 13" barrel.
Jim Cirillo, the living legend of the NYPD Stakeout Squad (RIP) was upset when they took his cut down SXS. While talking with Jim years ago we discussed the short barrel SxS as a defensive tool. The NYPD stakeout team was equipped with them for a time period but the brass made them give them up because bad guys weren't surviving their exits from the bodega's...lol. Just wasn't PC enough for the liberals. Jim was involved in 17 gunfights while a member of the stakeout squad resulting in 11 dead wanna be robbers.
