does anyone under the age of 27 have this strange affinity for 1911's?

My first pistol was a compact 1911. I loved the feel and still do, but I sold it because .45ACP was too much for me to start on and still be accurate. I would like a full-size one day. They are the perfect pistol, IMHO.

According to Thermactor,

"It's an ancient gun for old timers".

As an "old timer" (47) I figured I had throw in 2c.

Give it a little time, age and experience will catch up with you. You will see the light, and end up with one. Or at the least come to enjoy shooting one. You will find it's simple function and reliability too appealing to ignore. Not to mention the beauty of a 1911 that has been carried to hell and back, with little finish left, and a charactor all it's own.

As for an "ancient gun", good is hard to beat.

While I don't fit into the younger crowd, I do like my 1911. I carried a 1911 while in the service and preferred it over the M9. I was able to get a higher score during qualifications with an old wore out "battle rattle" 1911 than I ever could with a M9. The old pistol served me well in the sandbox (back in 90-91)

short answer - not really.

ive never been attracted to them, it's an old design and there are better options for a lottttt less.

I don't love them. I don't dislike them, and there are a couple models I would really like, especially something like an officer frame with a commander or four inch slide, but for now I appreciate the simplicity of my other pistols compared to the 1911s, and the grip of them doesn't really feel as good to me as a CZ 75 grip does.

And I can't stomach coughing up almost a thousand dollars for what would basically be a base model of a pistol. I have better carry guns and I'd rather put that into either an AR upper or upgrades for my already owned guns, or maybe buy a new revolver because they always draw me in, though I only have two.

Yes

I am 32 now, but I bought a Delta elite when I was 22, a colt commander when I was 24, and a Kimber pro carry when I was 25. Awesome guns.

yes i own three absolutely love them for there history and simplistic design, plus the fact that they have seen more combat than any pistol in the world. (semi-automatic).

Under 27 here! I'm in love with 1911s! I used to be a strictly plastic pistol guy. I traded my Beretta PX4 for a 1911 and I'll never go back. There's just no way of describing the feeling from shooting a 1911. I don't think the 1911 design will ever die.

25 is young by most standards...

I'm 25 and I enjoy a quality 1911 above most plastic wonderguns. Don't get me wrong, I own a couple indestructible polymer bullet hoses, but it seems there is a certian mistique surrounding these firearms. Something to do with idols past from the from the baby boomer generation and the second world war, I'm sure. I could also attribute it to the solid platform, endless customization options, destructive 45acp balistics, or the heft of a solid piece of steel in all it's gritty luster. Now, in the back of my mind I realize in a tactical situation I'd choose a much diffrent firearm with a lighter, higher capacity to engage multiple targets. Still a number of government orginizations have a shine to them more recently in my memory but many more don't for good reason. All in all I still recommend all Gen X/Y'ers who love shooting sports to try a 1911 at least once. They are great fun and most won't be disappointed.

Talk less, Train more.

I'm 25, Yup I sure do like the 1911. I don't really know how to explain it but It just clicked for me one day. Its the one firearm that I have, I know I could fix if I had the tools and parts. I enjoy the single stack design. I pack a government model everyday.

Im 21 and just picked up a Colt Defender, Its my first pistol, and it definitely WONT be my last 1911.

At first I heard all the hype about Glocks and all, then I shot a 1911 and was converted.

There is just something about them....

My son is 13 and just came home to tell me how it is that I can 'gift' a 1911 to him before he is 21 and able to buy one on his own.... so yeah, I would say this is the gun he is the most interested in.....

I know some people will disagree with me on this but I am 23 and this is my answer to this question.

To me a 1911 IS America... It is what I consider perfection in a handgun. It is one of those things that does everything wrong but in a way that makes them feel so right.

I think it is something like a knife to me... I mean it is simple, extremely outdated, and in no way perfect but it functions how it should, it performs when and how it needs to, and most of all when it all hits the fan it is something you can depend on with your life...

I am pretty sure the 1911 has killed everything from animals, criminals, nazis and probably zombies... and if Call of Duty: World at War taught us anything it has also killed numerous Nazi Zombies so when it comes to that at least we know it functions well in that situation.

All joking aside I do know from the bottom of my heart that a 1911 is a symbol of a golden age... It is perfection in imperfection and a beautiful piece in the ugliest form. You can love it or hate it but it is one gun that is almost as distinct in profile as a Beretta 92. It is the ONLY gun that has the right to say it has been to hell and back... it was never a curtain rod... it was always a tool. It was made to fit the hand of a human and not a lego... of course even lego men have round hands...

John Browning was probably the best designer of guns to have ever lived because the only thing better looking than a 1911 is an extremely nice revolver and even then those are hard to come across... very few guns take your breath away like a 1911.

Tupperwear will never look this good...

Yes. (20 here)

It's just a shame about the capacity and the double stackers being huge, unergonomical, unconcealable useless bricks. Other than that it's perfect. I wish someone could make one with a Browning HP-sized grip.

I'm not even American!

If you're asking whether people who post on The High Road forums like 1911's, then you are going to get an overwhelmingly positive response, but it may not be the most accurate indication to the real world popularity of 1911's.

In the real world, the Glock factory is producing 4000 handguns per day and still can't keep up with demand. Some of the 1911 manufacturers out there would be lucky to produce 4000 pistols per month. I'm not saying they wouldn't sell them, they would, but not in the numbers that the 9mm and .40 polymers are selling at.

Yes, it's a tried and test design, yes it was used in wartime and yes, it's American made (well some of them are). But most people don't purchase a handgun based on patriotism alone - in fact, I know some very patriotic Americans with German cars and Japanese televisions, heck some of them even own AKs.

Firearms go in and out of fashion, I remember during the 80's when Lethal Weapon and Die Hard featured the Beretta 92F, everybody wanted one and the 1911 was considered very old fashioned. But that's a different discussion.

The truth is, if you take a whipper snapper to a gun range, hand him two pistols, a mil-spec no frills 1911 or a brand new XDm, then chances are, he will want the XDm. The overall sales figures for polymers back this up I'm afraid.

i love 'em. 23

although revolvers tickle me pinker

but if i were to own just ONE semi, it would be five 1911s.

I am 27 and am not alone in my love of revolvers and 1911. This is wonderful and my brother who is 25 also loves the 1911
