My SP101 seems to be the forgotten child when pocket holsters were designed. Don Hume (I like their products) has a nice leather pocket holster with the hook I want but , of course, not for my SP101. Smith J frame holsters are too small by a fraction, but I wonder about the Colt Dick Special. If someone could tell me size comparison conclusively, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

The Detective Special is about half-way between the S&W J and K frames. Ruger's SP-101 is a hair larger then the Colt, but if you remolded the holster it would probably work.

Are you having trouble finding a holster for the SP?

I use the thumb break scabbard..
also a k frame holster will work(although it will be a little big)if you have one with a tension screw,or thumb break....

Thanks all, but I specifically want a pocket holster that Don Hume makes, the 001. I have done a lot of looking and it has the hook style that works for me best, as well as being made of leather. It is listed for the Detective Special but not my Ruger. Having tried holsters for the J frame Smiths, I have found the fit way too tight. Thus, my question. Thanks again.

WOW!

To carry my SP 101 in my pocket I'd have to smother my waist in
superglue and then put my pants on REAL quick !!!

I see what you mean. I'm 6 feet 5 inches and 300 pounds though. Looks like a PDA or something in my pocket.

TOOLMAKER,

OK, I think I've found my problem, I'm 6',170lb. When I carry my N.A.A.
.32 in a very thin ALESSI pocket holster,it looks like I've just shoplifted
a two pound bag of M&M's. Guess I need to eat more biscuits & gravy!

PS:
I LOVE my 3'' sp101 for belt use.
Also,my 2 1/4" SP would not quite fit in a nice older Safariland
belt holster for a D frame Colt.
LOU ALLESSI will build you a fine pocket holster for your SP for
a fair price.

I can't advise that. Tomorrow I have to go for a cardiac ultrasound and a stress test. I'm a middle aged fat man (but strangely proud to have made it this far...)

I have a Wild Bill's "Covert Carry" IWB holster for my Detective Spcl (Wild Bills). It was made for the SP101 and is a little bit loose, but since it is an IWB it is not a problem.

But this makes me wonder, why in the world is Ruger making a 5 shot revolver in the space that 6 shots will fit

Ruger designed the gun to stand up to unlimited use with .357 Magnum cartridges. (Earlier versions were chambered in .38 Special Plus-P). The manufacturers of some other revolvers expect them to "be shot little and carried much." One seldom hears of a Ruger shooting loose or developing cylinder end shake. :)
