does savage still make the msr? I don't see it on their website.

I find myself looking more closely at small frame ar's and I saw a post on some forum that called the savage 308 AR a small frame.

currently my short list includes the :
dark storm ds-25 (yet to be released)
pof rogue (reports of poor qc)
the palmetto px10 (which appears to be something of vaporware)
trying to cobble together something based off the dpms gen 2 pattern (dicey)

all the other small frame ar's I can see are well over $2k....

Buy the POF Rogue. I have a Rogue and owned a Revolution. Only sold the Revolution after I bought the much lighter Rogue. Initially my Rogue would not cycle suppressed. It was over-gassed and when I got in touch with POF, they recommended adding their adjustable gas block before I sent it back to them. After confirming that the rifle was perfectly reliable without the suppressor, I ordered Dictator gas block and my rifle has been 100% reliable since then.

I am extremely satisfied with my Rogue at this point and I can’t imagine buying any other 308 AR when weight/size is a concern.

POF’s customer service left a little to be desired initially, but I honestly feel like they are just over-whelmed with questions and info requests. Once I got someone on the phone, they took good care of me.

Why do you want a SM? Building is better. And 80% are better yet!:D
Maybe he wants a factory warranty. Maybe he has no desire to build. Maybe he wants a rifle which can’t be built from available parts (like the POF Rogue). Maybe he isn’t a gun tinkerer. There’s all sorts of reasons to buy rather than build depending on the product desired and the end user.

if SM is Savage Msr, it interested me because it is the only factory ar10 that is on a small frame. that I know of (if it is really a small frame)
As to why a factory gun as opposed to building: mostly it is that there is no standard for small frame 308. or even ar10. it can be done, but it's trickier.

I know that feeling. I intended to build my own, but came across a good deal on a lightly used PSA10 Gen2 with some extras thrown in on top that was too good to pass up.

I am trying to decide between a savage, a used dpms g2 or a POF. The only one I’ve handled is a dpms g2. If someone handed you one in the dark you would have no idea it’s not an AR15. The savage is from what I read about a lb heavier, but I like the look of the monolithic handgaurd. POF looks real nice and the only current production, but also the most expensive.

My dream rifle is a dpms g2 hunter in 338 federal, but I’ve been looking for one a long time and never seen one or even heard of anyone that ever had one.

The main reason I bought my POF Rogue is that I picked it up off the rack at a gun store and said to my wife, “This is one of the lightest AR-15s I have ever had my hands on.” Then, I noticed the extremely large magwell and realized something odd was afoot. The Rogue is literally a 308 in an AR-15 frame. Even the bolt carrier is the same size. They pushed the trigger back to accommodate the magwell, but I can’t feel a difference when handling the rifle. For a hunting rifle, the savings in weight and bulk were worth the coin. I have no regrets about my purchase to date. The pigs, however, they’ve filed some formal protests…

yeah I had the exact same experience with the dpms. I picked it up to look at it and didn’t even realize it wasn’t an AR15 until I noticed the mag well. Have you handled a savage by any chance? I’m curious if it’s really AR15 dimensions or a halfway between size.

I for one had a full size AR10 I built once upon a time and I hate hate hated it because it was too bulky and heavy. I love my many AR15 builds, but no full size ar10’s for me. That little bit difference in height and width and length ruins in for me.

I haven’t had my hands on a Savage chambered in 308. I did have an Aero Precision M5 build with a Faxon 18” pencil barrel that really wasn’t bad at all. Dimensions were noticeably larger than an AR-15, but that rifle did not feel bulky at all. Kinda wish I hadn’t sold it, but it quit getting shot after I bought my Rogue.
