I just won a S&W 617 10-shot 6” .22 LR on GB, it got to my FFL this weekend. Gun seller wrote it was “Factory New” on the details page.
My FFL’s are good guys who will check out guns I buy and give them a quick glance to check for issues before I make the drive over to fill out the 4473 and start the 10-day waiting period. (They started this for me after we all missed a slight bulge in a Model 14-3 barrel .)
I get a call today that the “Factory New” 617 cylinder wont open, the sideplate screws looked buggered and it just looks “fingered over” compared to the new guns they sell. The cylinder ultimately opened when the ejector rod was held and the cylinder spun enough to allow it to open, when opened the rod was loose enough to turn by hand.
I left a phone message for the seller, I haven’t had a call back. (I will say the seller listed another 6” 617 with the same pics used for this one. That’s not too comforting. )
Do these side plate screws look “Factory New” to you?
Stay safe.
