Does your house mark you as a gun owner?

I have two action figures with an M16A3 and the other with an M4, a picture of a pretty Korean girl with an HK and an HK calendar. One of my coworkers gave me a SureFire poster today that I took home but haven't put up yet. Two steel zapping plaques on the wall. Actual gun stuff is stowed.

No need to be stealthy--people I know well enough to invite over already know I shoot.

No gun stuff on the car and I don't have any clothing with any writing on them. (no NRA hats thank you)

MT, WY gun friendly???

Why the last I knew from a buddy of mine who is an LEO, here in the Great State of Maine, CCW's were around 11 or 12 % of the population. That would probably be even higher if all the flatland transplants from away would go home. Spent two weeks in WY on an elk hunt, gorgeous, gorgeous country, wonderful peole, wicked nice, can't wait to go back!

It's a necessity in NJ.

Same here. Live in a townhouse, prefer to keep it all quiet. Those that need to know, know. Those that don't, don't need any help.

Sucks, but thats life in a gun unfriendly state.

Everything in the house is well hidden...

But from day one, it was obvious to my neighbors I was a gun owner. After seeing me getting the newspaper or going to the mailbox with my CCW Glock 17 on my belt, my neighbors knew I owned at least one gun. After they recovered from the initial shock, every one of them turned out to be amazingly polite to me.

Im pretty low key except for the 8 wallhangers, the 1911 screen saver on the computer, 10 years worth of gun mags and various reference books in the book case ,the old timey gun cabinet full of BP rifles ,the gun safe and the reloading press hooked up to the breakfast bar all in the living room of my 1 bedroom apartment,

Hey joab! Welcome to THR dude! :) Sounds to me like you're very subtle there! :D Breakfast bar with a difference too!

Another possible you might like for your puter wallpaper can be found here .

I left a link for download of a hires version of the pic - you should find it ... I am not embarrassed to still mention it ... one of those shots that don't happen too often ... it still thrills me.

I'm very stealthy. Gun safe in a closet and the door stays shut. Cleaning items and such in plastic ammo boxes. No banners, no decals. My vehicle is the same way--not even an NRA sticker. Thieves in Austin are very brazen and will break into your vehicle if they have the slightest suspicion of anything in there, and I park at trailheads a lot (they probably think I leave my gun in the car when I run or mountain bike. Silly thugs!)

Oh, yeah--there IS a Texas State Rifle Association calendar and some "Got Ammo?" refrigerator magnets from ammodirect.com, but those all came free in the mail.

I believe that stealthy keeps your guns from getting stolen.

One of the worse anti-stealth things I've seen lately were some t-shirts on the web that say: "Am I printing?" :uhoh: Da law, it say, "CONCEALED carry."

Nope, I live in California... it would be a sin! :p

No gun rags laying around, most of em' are in my bookshelf stacked together. My room has car posters all over the place. My garage is filled with car parts and detailing supplies. My garage smells more like Meguiars and exhaust fumes than hoppes gun scrubber

All my guns are hidden from the little girls running around the house. My cleaning supply is also hidden, one in my drawer, one in my closet. I do have a Crossman Pellet Rifle w/ a Tasco scope that lays around the house. But nope, my house looks like every other house on the street. :D

I'm busted:rolleyes:

I have 2 empty Sig cases in the living room, gun mags in the bathroom along with a gun encyclopedia...:scrutiny: ...WHAT???!!!???

Also I left my cleaning kit out....I do that once in a while. A remington 870 box left out...I don't even lock my guns up. I REALLY need to get a safe. All my guns are in a bag hidden in a bunch of clutter in the garage...but still.........REALLY NEED TO GET A SAFE. Soon. Maybe some insurance...which leads me to a question.

were pretty obvious. without exagerations hundreds of 22 brass casings on the deck out front, thousands underneath, shotguns in the garage during deer season, bird guns by the phone table for quick pigion runs, pistols in every bedroom, and a long rifle for those nasty critters that pop out during the day that you just gotta reach out and say hello too. if company with kids or people uncomfortable with firearms are coming, we "tidy up" a bit, but if you know us and we like you, chances are you'll see plenty of firepire throughout the house

oh yea and another gun on the fridge, cause, thats just handy

Well, my roommate and I live in a two-bedroom apartment, so there aren't lots of options for concealing stuff. Not that we really try, either... I'm sitting in the living room right now. Without getting up, I can see... maybe 7 or 8 gun rags or hunting magazines scattered about. There are three sets of whitetail antlers over the fireplace, my roommate's Glock is sitting on the coffee table, and my XD is sitting on the end table beside me (both unloaded).

So yeah, anyone coming in here would get the idea pretty quick. :D In fairness, we don't exactly entertain often, outside of Dan's hunting buddies.

You should ride in Dan's truck, though... there's always two or three different types of ammo rolling around on the floor. :D

since i have three kids i cant keep any weapons in plain view, i only have a couple guns that are not in a well hidden safe, carry gun and house gun. there are however caseings and magazines (the paper kind) laying about. my son is always picking bullets out of the logs of my range and picking up the caseings that i dont reload (alum./steel) i do pick all this stuff up when people come to vistit because it is usually parents of my kids' friends and of course all of our friends have kids.

Nope. Not a thing. People are always surprised to discover that I own, and am into, guns. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the phrase "I'd never have thought you were the type." The only tip off's are the Guns&Ammo magazines which occasionally find their way into the bathroom. :D

Once or twice co-workers who already know my interest have come over - apparently expecting to see guns lying around and/or on display, and been surprised to discover that the rumors about my having a bunker, racks of assault weapons, and more ammunition than Uncle Sam aren't true after all.

The sort of stereotypes liberals have of us are ridiculous.

I live in an apartment, so of course there's no indication from outside. Inside, there are a few subtle indications out in the living room, an NRA or other magazine perhaps. If someone were to look deeper they might discover a loaded magazine concealed on a bookcase behind a standing picture, stuff like that. Going into my spare room / computer room it would become blatantly obvious. But company does not normally go in there.

There's a shoulder mount of a kudu above the front door, a leopard on a tree around the corner, a Cape buffalo over the fireplace, a lion in the office and various other examples of the taxidermist's art scattered around the house . . . I imagine someone could figure things out.

It's a necessity in NJ.
Definitely. Most of the people I work with know I own guns, but certainly not most of my other accquaintances. And the only reason the people I work with know is because I take them to the shooting range with me. I'd say my workplace is generally very pro-gun despite being in New Jersey.

You will not find any NRA stickers on my house or vehicle, or any other indication that I have firearms. I don't advertise. If you ask me, depending on how well I know you, I might tell you. Otherwise, I keep quiet.

Re:

Me??? Very low profile....no one would have a clue unless they really knew me. All gun related stuff is locked away out of sight. I do have a mag rack with some gun rags like American Rifleman but there are many others as well, Family Handyman, Parents, RedBook etc. Reloading gear and most shooting gear and ammo all in workshop, spare ammo locked in hidden ammo box. Guns in safes hidden in plain sight. Tell tale signs only visible in master bedroom, where you can find numerous holsters, mags with snap caps and a few books. But no one other than the mrs and I ever get in there. Not even the kids get in there unless we are....
No signs, decals etc on the house except for an old faded NRA sticker on the back door left from previous owner. Oh yeah and the RKBA 2A magnet on my vehicle. mack

It is not real obvious at my house either. My safe is tucked away in a closet and locked when not in use. There might be an odd magazine or two here and there. Field and Stream, Combat Pistols. Etc. That being said, my UPS driver knows good and well I am a gun owner. Either that or he thinks I am buying ammunition for no reason. Now, he and I are on a first name basis, but I don't think that precludes him from sitting around with his buddies drinking a beer and mentioning something about that guy over on the east side must have a lot of guns because I sure bring him a lot of ammunition. So you may not be as stealthy as you think. Now if WA would just get that gun in I ordered, I could work the UPS guy a little harder........................

It all depends upon where you look and when you look. Most of the time, in most of the house, you'd have to be looking pretty closely. However, if you looked in the right spot in the basement, you'd notice the two presses and assorted reloading paraphenalia pretty fast. A smart guy might also draw a conclusion about the camo canoe hanging from the ceiling of the garage... especially with the bag of dekes on the shelf behind it.

I won't even bring up the feathers floating out of the garage when I'm cleaning birds in the Fall. :)
