What can you guys recommend for a double stack 1911? I want to pick up another one but i'd like to entertain the idea of a double stack for more capacity. This isn't going to be a carry weapon, just another toy. However, I do still seek a highly reliable weapon..... suggestions?

STI or SVI I carry a 2011, its no different than carrying a 1911

I daily carry my Para P14 stainless with hi-viz sights. About $900 + tax, so it won't break the bank, but an excellent value for the money.

I wold not call the current Para's a "budget" gun, which, to me indicates a lower quality firearm. I've owned four different Para Ordnance double stack .45's and they were/are very reliable in my personal experience.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'd say my budget is around a grand. I don't really want to sink a ton of money in one, however, i want it to be a gun i'm going to keep so. I'll say that STI tactical is a sharp piece!! I've read a lot of bad reviews online about the Para's. However, i don't know of anyone that's owned one before. What is Para's customer service like? Thanks again. Cheers, hvychev77

$1500+. I bought the Edge years ago for $1500, and its close to $2000. The gun in the middle is a custom build by John Harrison, and I got it for over $2000 (original owner spent much more than that) and the Tactical I traded a Dan Wesso Guardian for it, but is close to $2000 now.

Right on. Thanks for the insight fellas. They're a little more than I anticipated, however, folks seem to like 'em. I'm still a little hesitant on the Para's just because of what i've seen and read online about them. However, i'll just have to keep researching......Thanks again. Merry Christmas ya'll......

Or Para mags don't fit in STI's?
This one.

There are a variety of wide body 2011's. Besides STI/SVI, there are Rock Island, Para, Springfield (I don't know if Springfields are still available). I know there is a difference in mags, but I don't know which one's work with which guns.

I don't care for the Para's because its a blockier grip. I also had a lot of issues with my 14.45 Limited and sold it off. I did have a SA 38Super Hi-cap that I sold to a friend. Again, that was based on a Para frame that I didn't care for. The RIA is the same frame style.

Here's my 38Super.

STI & SVI mags work with each other, and the Para, SA and RIA mags are compatible.

The STI mags could work in the Para style with a little work.

The Caspian hi-cap is yet another style.

Para is a lower quality firearm than STI, and that is reflected in the difference in price...

I'm not saying that Paras are bad pistols though...

Take online reviews with a huge 50lbs bag of salt. There are haters for very type of firearm under the sun, just like there are fanboys for every other gun under the sun.

Yes there are prolly 2-3 times the number of Paras so it stands to reason that there'd be 2-3 times the bad reviews. Paras don't have the build quality that STI does but you do get what you pay for. My Para is a older signature series and runs like a top and is very accurate. My STI is a VIP and it's top shelf stuff.

Para

I have the Para 14.45 with LDA trigger. It has been very reliable and is quite accurate. I would recommend this particular pistol to anyone. I've had two Para's that I remember and both were good guns. The 14.45 is heavy when fully loaded but no more than my other hi-cap .45's. My H&K and the FN Tactical are both heavy when loaded. For "open" carry they would be fine. Just a little too big and heavy for concealed carry. I carry a Glock 23 with Model 22 mags.

Ill just keep my Sig's and add another magazine.

Dont Para's just add 2 rounds in the double stack?

Not worth it to me.

BUT if your just collecting, dont listen to me. enjoy!

be safe.
