dove hunt gun recommendation

I've personally witnessed MANY 1100s and 11/87s shoot scores of hundreds of rounds without a hiccup or fanfare on the trap and skeet range. Lots of shooters still use 'em every weekend i've been to the range.

I dunno where this issue of their questionable reliability came from...? Keep it clean and use clean-shooting ammo, and yer GTG
Rio immediately comes to mind - it's good stuff

Except in Argentina, you'll be shooting dirtier ammunition and you'll be shooting an average of 1000 per day or more.

O/U's, like a K-80 or similar, will do just fine with that volume; however, if it was my first trip, I would rent their guns and have your bird boy clean it after each session

...not to mention, if I were to shoot an 1100 that much without gloves on, I'd have a raw bloody cut on my trigger finger after the first day. Not good, on an expensive hunting trip.

That does it. I ain't goin'. I prefer goose hunting in Canada anyway. No bugs, or snakes, and the natives speak English in Manitoba. Well... it's kinda English. Eh?

Rampant_Colt, the trap and skeet range is nothin. Do they fire a round or three every 30 seconds to a minute on the trap range for 8-10 hours a day? I guess the gun can quit glowing around noon as you eat lunch.

I think my lowly Spartan 20 gauge side by side could handle it. Simple and strong little gun even if it ain't that pretty. Be nice to switch guns and let it cool off once in a while, though, LOL! From what i hear, Argentina ain't so much hunting as marathon shooting.

BTW, they probably speak English where you'll need it in Argentina and, heck, I speak enough Spanish to get by down there on a bird hunting trip. Spanish is almost require to do business in Texas. LOL

I'd save the hassle and wear and tear on my own gun and rent one there.

Either that or just spend the money to buy a gun specifically for that trip. On something like this, what's another $1000-$2000?

I've always fantasized about taking my 870 28 gauge on an Argentina run, but I just like the gun too much to put it through that much abuse.

If I were to do it, I'd buy on of the new 870 28's (even though they don't handle nearly as nimbly as the older ones) or an O/U 28 and shoot the hell out of it. If it comes out unscathed, I have another gun. If for whatever reason something goes wrong, I'm not out a gun that I'm attached to.

I know two guys that go every year. Both their families own ranches. Shoot thousands of shells each time.

As noted above, this is a whole different world. Dirty ammo. A Winchester, 1100 or 11-87 MAY make it until noon of the first day. If the 11-87 does, you will have changed O-rings every half hour or so.

Around here, our guns are a source of pride and kept clean and pristine. Down there a gun is used like a hammer and anvil.

One of their guests insisted on taking a 12 gauge O/U. By the second day, his shoulder was raw. This would be a REAL good time to listen to guys that BTDT.
