Ramp it back up Innerpiece. I just bought my .308 sportical DPMS last night! Looked through all usual channels and "out of stock" like everything else in the world right now. Prolly paid a couple bucks too much for it but Hey, can't put a price on a good time! Like everyone else I worry about future availability:banghead: Wanted the .308 bang for Hogs and Deer. Hope to get lots of info from this thread being a first time AR owner. :D
 
Do you mind if I asked where you found one and what you paid? I'm still trying to find one myself, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it...
 
Soon Ill be odering something with a little more "reach out and touch" from DPMS. prolly something like what Cesium has!

Still thinking about it? I have the LR308 24"...great rifle, and got it for a good price (well before the panic). Most people that I have spoken with who own one are reporting 1MOA or better, which is outstanding for an AR-type or autoloader. If you order one from DPMS I would consider a few things to be done to it on the initial order. Get the JP trigger installed...A3 upper (don't want crap getting into the good stuff)...flute and cryo (will help the longevity) the barrel. These things will be worth it the first time you shoot and will cost you much less in the long run and save you from down-time.

Nice to hear that you and others like your sporticals. I'm considering getting one once things calm down a bit.

I bought mine new at a local gun shop for $625 and sold it used with only 40 rounds through it for $600.
 
Yeah, that's what I've been seeing, Skidooman603. My son found one in a gun store in Utah for $995, put it down to call me to ask if I wanted it, to which I quickly said "ABSOLUTELY!". He turned back around to pick it up and buy it, only to find some other guy already buying it! This all happened within about 30 seconds.... :(

I just want to find one and pay no more than LIST for it. Maybe I'm dreaming, but maybe another such opportunity might stumble along in my direction. Any leads would be most appreciated.
 
I'de buy every $600 .223 I could carry right now :) Be patient and check your local dealers often. Grease an employee to call when they get any in. My local dealer gets a few now and then without knowing when they are coming.
 
Well I will join the ranks!! Just picked up a DPMS Sportical locally for an awesome price!!! Cant wait to shoot it!!

Took her to the range Sunday and she functioned flawlessly and recoil from .308 caliber was much less than expected!

First time posting

Been reading this thread for a while lol , just picked up my DPSM sportical and thus far am very pleased after 100 or so silvertips through it. I added a new pistol grip with a hand stop that ive had in a drawer from a different project and a UTG quad rail, optics riser , MI gas block mounted front (flip up) sight
and am waiting on a tactical forend vertical grip with inserts for pressure switches. I need to run and grab a harris Bipod but am not sure wich one yet .
Question~can the stock flash hider be removed? or will it take a gunsmith?

Skidooman, awesome .308 (drool) thats actually what i wanted but they are scarce to say the least these days. Im in Georgia and pickins are slim.. everything everywhere is out of stock or on back order and retailers are cashing in. :scrutiny:
 
You should be safe in Georgia for having a threaded barrel.

Usually, rifles are only supplied to ban states in a non logical configuration. Do you see a pin going through the flash suppressor anywhere?

Oh yeah, I made some changes to mine. My cousin bought a new Remington SPS Tactical 223 and was in need of a scope. So, I took his Bushnell Holosight off his hands. Least I could do. :)

It matches the Sportical's lines pretty well IMO.

I'm thinking it is time for a Camo paint job now :evil:

Flash suppressor pin.

No pin that i can see, ill post some pics with a closer view, i tried to "unscrew" it and nearly took the skin off my hand...im thinking it may be machined on :uhoh:
 
rickytick- The flash hider on the sportical is threaded on. It just takes alot of effort to get it off the first time. You can try and let some penetrating oil work its way into the threads or heat it up.
 
Great thread. Something to reference next time some arm chair commando says a .223 has no penetration.

Looks like you are having a fun time. I would love to have a car to shoot up.

Bellow is my DPMS Sportical. Its topped off with a Millet DMS scope. I've had it for a few months. I don't know the round count, but i have shot PMC bronze, Wolf, and XM-193 through this rifle, out of various kinds of magazines, with no failures.

Iv shot it in the field during freezing weather with no problems. Its not a match rifle, but its accurate enough to pop musk rats. I get about 3" groups at 100 yards from an unsupported standing position; I'm sure that the groups could be much better if i wasn't such a crappy shot.

I have used D&H aluminum, C-Products stainless, Lancer L5, P-mags, and CMMG immortals in my Sportical with no problems.
