Drake Scheduled for Conference

SCOTUS has scheduled Drake v. Jerejian http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/drake-v-jerejian/ for conference on April 18. Any legal minds out there care to opine on the chances of it being granted cert?

I would say the chances are good considering the differing opinions among the Federal Court of Appeals.

What cases? Illinois has carry now. Maryland's case was denied by SCOTUS unless there's a new one.

You have drake and peruta, and the basic construct of the challenged law is very similar and the rulings are 180 degrees opposite form each other. In terms of being heard, it doesn't get much better, and the only other chance would be peruta being appealed. The odds of 2 and 11 bringing up new challenges that won't be hamstrung by the existing precedent of the state winning are low, and outside of 9 (peruta) and 3 (drake), you aren't likely to see the issue come up again unless a state in one of the other circuits changes political direction hard and fast with great disregard for their state constitution.

Drake has been working its way to SCOTUS since 2010, there is no other carry case left at appeals, 9th circuit covers Hawaii and plaintiffs in the 2 California cases, the sheriffs, said no mas. Wouldn't it be crazy if the Garden State was ground zero in restoring the right once and for all. Ironically NJ was the first state to ratify the Bill of Rights, go figure.
