Hi guyz...I thoughtI might show some pics of the Barong I am almost finished with, next thing to do is make the sheath for it. The blade is CPMD2 and shaves my arm,its double ground anf 1/4" thick. Its 14" OAL and has Black
G-10 handle scales with Spanner screws holding the handles on. The slots at the tip on the spine are whats sometimes referred to as 'BladeBreakers'. If you have seen Keatings Crossada blowie design, you see one towards the back of the cutting edge on his design. A great design I might add. I made the 1st three Bladebreakers for trapping thinner edges and the last 2 for trapping thicker ones. Anyways... enjoy.

Before the handles....

Well I hope everyone enjoys my pics, I'll update this when I get the Sheath the way I want it. Thanx for looking. :)

Eric, I'm unsure about that choil/finger groove, but I LOVE the overall lines of this. You know I like big choppers, and 14" is in a sweet spot of size and usefulness for some larger blades.

Now THAT I like! I'm into SEAsian blades and really like big leaf-bladed designs.

How's it balanced? That's a lot of tang and micarta you have there. I can see it balanced as a fighter, but can it chop?

That's a heck of a knife! Wow.

You could call it Barong Obama...

(Sorry!)

Thanx soooo much guyz. I try hard to do my best. :)

CWL, It chops like a champ...beastly. And the balance is much better than I thought. The G10 handles help with that. :)

Barong Obama...LMAO!!! Good one bro. :D

...

i guess without a .45 in my hand i´d wet my pants,
if confronted with that Fugly beauty!

verrry nice.

Eric,

Cool looking knife.

I'll offer some suggestions since you've got plenty of praise.

The hard edges on the G10 look like they'd create some awful hot spots and blisters with extended use. Breaking that edge would reduce the potential for blistering.

Also, I know you're not trying to create a traditional pattern barong, but part of what you're supposed to be able to do with one is move the hand along the grip so that you can have a finger around the ricasso for detail work, a solid grip right behind the ricasso for fighting and slide your hand to the rear for added leverage for chopping power. Your grip design pretty much focuses solely on the fighting grip and doesn't provide the option for the other working grips. Think about how the grip can be changed on your next one to provide for all three grips.

Thanx Guyz...I appreciate all your kind words. :)

hso- I feel you bruddah. I have sanded down the corners on it initially, but I may further conture them or make the handles so the buyer can unscrew them and do whatevrr they need to do. One of my testers says he likes a knife to "Bite" into his hand a little bit when using it for serious cutting. Its far from a bit with the Barong handles, but they have a bit of beefyness to them. :)
I appreciate you giving me some tips on that stuff and I appreciate your knowledge too. Its helpful to have people around that know alot about stuff. I wasnt aware of the hand riding up for detail work useage thing, but it makes sense. Mines a modern/industrial take on the classic. :D I will definetly work on the handle Ideas you spoke of. Thanx brother.

...the end of the grip is so massive - a piece of steel protruding
from it as a skullbreaker woud be nice....

MP7,

The butt will do very well as a head-knocker as is considering the thickness of the tang. Point bits on the butt tend to poke the user in sensitive places at sensitive moments.

...HSO,

..yeah, seems like my thoughts weren´t really done,
when i wrote. Of course the thick steel will
do the job without showing.

How much would a barong like that go on your site?

Speaking of sites, you have one don't you?

I remember one being in your signature at one point right?

Thanx Nalioth. :)

The 14" Barong I make goes for $425...Blade, Sheath, and kaboodle.

I have plans for a 22" one....the CPMD2 is on the way as we speak. Maybe this one will be a bit closer to hso and J.Shirley were describing. :)
