I'm looking to free-fload the handguard, but also want a lower rail for mounting a bi-pod or vertical grip, or new sling swivels, all those goodies the lower rail is for.

However I don't like the style of those 4-rail floated guards, or the prices, especially for the rifle-length ones!

Anyone know if one could do this:

To this?

To get something along the lines of this:

Or furthermore, based on that last picture, could one fasten items or flat rails directly through the vents on vented free-float tubes?

Sorry if that's excessive, but this forum is the best for getting good advice, before spending the money.

That's the Yankee Hill Manufacturing Customizeable rail you linked first... They can be purchased from "Bright Flashlights" off of the Industry Forum on AR15.com for $94 delivered.

I personally would do THAT since your tube is probably a one-piece and not indexable. It can be done, but you have to make sure you get the rails in the right place the first time because you can't adjust if you're "off".

I keep saying I'm going to use the YHM for my next build, but I keep putting it off...
