Howdy ya'll,

I've got a pair of OCP/multicam I use for hunting and it's finally faded. Has anyone had any luck with clothing dye? What color; green, brown, gray? How'd it work out?

It has been years, but I've tried dying stuff. I never had luck, it fades quickly. I avoid anything 100% cotton anymore. Among other things it seems to fade faster. I tend to wear similar clothes and there are usually options that are polyester/cotton blends. Those not only fade much slower, but dry faster if they get wet.

When I was doing R&D for my unit snipers, we played around with brown dye and that stupid ACU patter to try and put some colors in it that actually exist in nature and maybe tone it down a little. The best description we could come up with for how they turned out was "blurple". Then we tossed them in the dumpster. Just go to a surplus store and get some new ones. Turn your old pants into shorts for yard work (I have about 4 pairs of these) and do whatever with the top.

Welp. At this point I'm too broke for the local surplus. Even the old bdu goes for $20 for pants. I remember when you could get them for $5-$10.

So at this point I'm trying to salvage what I've got. I really like the Multicam pattern but I'm only using them for hunting so I guess it doesn't REALLY matter that much.

If you're not opposed to commercial gear instead of milsurp just use these for the season and then check Walmart towards the end when they clearance everything. Depending on your size needs you can get the pants for $5-10.

My closet is never empty so I'm not really shopping with an immediate need and I always "stock up" at the end of the season. Same goes for most other hunting gear. You'd be surprised how cheap they mark down the muzzleloading stuff lol.

Don't try to dye your clothes. I have a friend that always jumps into everything. He had several pairs of MossyOak treestand that was faided, both shirts and trousers, so he put them all into the washer and added a packet of brown dye. They came out a brown ugly color with all the camo pattern covered up. They were really ruined. He put the whole batch in the dumpster.

Unless they’re faded to the point of being solid white, just wear them. If you don’t harvest an animal, it’s not because of the clothing.
