Yesterday this knife that I found last weekend on eBay arrived. It's an English-made Bowie hunting knife that was imported by the E.K. Tryon Company of Philadelphia, PA in the late 19th/early 20th Century.
I have a scan of an 1883 Tryon catalog and a very similar knife is listed as a No.501 Hunting Knife, available in various lengths.
With a Pietta 1860 Army Sheriff for scale:
The blade is 5.6" long by 0.015" thick. The full tang handle with stag scales is 4" long while the guard is 2" wide.
It came with a decent sheath. I think it was home made or aftermarket.
It's dull now but I plan to sharpen it and use it but not abuse it. If I take a deer during muzzleloader season I think it would be very cool to dress it with a period knife.
