Are these clones of CZ 75B? Have their ever been Witness clones of Beretta 92, M9?

What is the value of a used, good condition EAA Witness 9mm?

The Tanfoglio Brothers of Italy have made "clones" and improved clones of the CZ-75 for years.

In fact, almost all the copies of the CZ-75 were actually built by Tanfoglio, or supplied to other companies as semi-finished parts.

The current importer of Tanfoglio pistols is European American Armory (EAA) who call their versions the "Witness":
http://www.eaacorp.com/

Tanfoglio has not made copies of the Beretta pistols as far as I know.
The only copies or improved copies of the Beretta pistols are those made by Taurus.

A good, used Witness 9mm will generally sell for anywhere from $225 - $350, if its the small-framed gun, and a bit more for some models, or if its made on the larger frame that is now standard.

Good guns, sort of like a RUGER from Europe. The problem is that Witness (not Tanfoglio) doesn't provide the kind of customer service that Ruger is known for (i.e., outstanding.) Witness CS has been horrible, and senior management of the firm seems to be downright hostile if you complain.

Like Walt said. Customer Service is non-existant. Unlike real deal CZs, Witness pistols are either very good... or quite crappy. MIne has been flawless in operation..others have had different luck.

Do not pay $350 for a standard used witness, period, when budsgunshop.com can get you any caliber NIB for under $315.

I had a chance to shoot a buddy's EAA, it was a good little gun, never had a problem that I saw. I wouldn't mind getting one myself some day.

I have a new EAA Witness Compact with the poly frame in 9mm. I have put 300 rounds through it with not one failure. I paid $259 for it. It feels great and shoots even better. It can be a DA/SA or cocked and locked or DA/SA and locked. It was well worth what I paid for it. Now If I could just find good night sights and a good IWB holster for it.

kinda new, little help

new to the forum and (kinda new) to shooting sports :)
Bought a new Witness 9mm for 275 about a month ago.
It's my first. My buddy who got me into the sport who's been shooting
his whole life and owns more firearms than i have fingers and toes,
thinks this is a solid firearm.
I have just a few questions:
will cz 75 mags work in the witness 9?
if not, where do any owners of eaa's get their mags besides, eaa (they're $40 ea!)
also, whats everyone who has one's preferred ammunition?
i currently am shooting just some
Win. 115gr. FMJ target and 147gr. JHP (for home)
any help would be great!
thanks

-edit- we've put 1000 rounds through this with no FTF and no problems thus far.

Yes, CZ mags will work in Witnesses, but the opposite isn't always true.

CDNN (www.cdnninvestments.com) has mags for both guns, and they're generally about the least expensive place to buy them.

(The mag release in a Witness is set just a hair lower in the Witness than in a CZ. When you try a Witness mag in a CZ, it can jam the top of the mag up against the underside of the slide. Not always, but sometimes. You have to enlarge the top of the mag notch to make it work.)

Mags

EAA switched all the Witnesses to the larger frame recently. It is possible that your gun could be on the larger frame, and if so then the CZ 9mm mags will not work in it.

We have several TZ guns between our family and our friends. A buddy just got a 10mm Witness and it's one solid piece of machinery. Just itching to shoot it.:D

Tanfoglio used to make clones of .380 Berettas back in the early eighties. The bluing always was lousy, but they shot OK.

Witness = cheap way to get into a 38 super or 10mm.

I've looked at thier .45 compact a few times.

I have the Elite Match model,it was just about $100 more than the standard model I got for my girlfriend. My Elite was $425 OTD,and out of the dozen or so people that I have let handle or shoot it,at least 8 of them have said they're going to get one.It differs from the standard model in a longer barrel and a SA only trigger with overtravel stop, also adjustable dovetailed sights. It is by far the most accurate gun I own,and my harem includes HK(2) sig, glock, taurus, and a few others.I highly recommend that anyone looking for a range/competition gun take a good look at the Witness Elite series...:D

A family friend an my confermation sponser had only one 9mm. A Tanfoglio, everytime we went to the range that was the usually the first gun i shot or my favorite (look at my sig, you'll know what i've shot). The Tanfoglio is a great handgun, one of the best 9mm's i've ever shot, and i rate it very highly.

I've read that it's very popular amongst Italian and European police officers.

I fell in love with their Witness Hunter in 10mm. But I just wasn't sure about having a gin that said "Witness Hunter" on the side, like I was some mafia hitman or something.

I have a Witness 10mm full sized in "Wonder Finish". It's my "carry" gun. I got into reloading partially because of the expense of shooting 10mm. At first, I was loading them a couple thousandths over spec LOA, but a Dillon Case gage cured that easily enough.

Since then, I haven't had a single FTF/FTE. One other thing I did was swap out the standard 14# recoil spring with a Wolf 22# spring. Allows me to shoot full house 10mm loads without cracking the frame or tossing the ejected brass 80'.

Very comfortable firearm with excellent "point" and a surprisingly good trigger.

When I had a 10mm

The Witness is definitely a good deal for the money.

Funny thing with mine is that I put a 22lb spring in it, and instead of going 33 ft the brass went like 30 ft.

Mine was chucking them into the next County with the stock spring. Still launches them about 20', but at least I don't have to swim the river to retrieve my empties now.

My 3 favorite loads so far are 200gr FMJ 5.8gr of W-231. 180gr XTP with 6.2gr of W-231. Or 135gr XTP with 7.2gr of W-231.

From what I've read elsewhere, the Witness 10mm can handle upwards of around 50k CUPS. Most of the factory load data tries to pin this down in the .40S&W range of the mid 30k's CUPS. A load I plan on trying soon is the Hornady 180XTP with 10.2gr of Accurate No.7. Should yield about 1200fps at around 45k CUPS.

A Witness .38 Super is on my list to get; a simple conversion to 9x23. Imagine 18 rounds of 9x23 @.357mag like performance!

I also had a 38 Super

Didn't have to do anything to it to shoot 9x23. A 9mm extractor might have been nice, but it still seemed to work fine.

The 38 Super Witness is just as much fun as the 10mm.

You can get Aguilla 38 super for well under 10 bucks a box.

Best handload was
9x23 Win Brass
IMR 7625 (can't remember the exact amount of powder)
Remington Rifle Primer
115gr XTP
going about 1500 fps
This is an overload so don't use it in your gun!

"Witness = cheap way to get into a 38 super or 10mm."

My 10mm was $750. that's not cheap. But having a gun that says "Witness Hunter" on the side is bad-ass. Actually, $750 isn't bad for a 10mm w/ a 6 inch barrel. The Witness 10's and 45's are based on the CZ 97.

Which 10mm witness did you buy for $750? They can be a cheap way to get into 10mm, with the basic 10mm witness going for $315.
