I have a buddy that I gave a quart of Ed's Red to about a year ago. He recently ran out. He has been asking me to make a gallon and split it with him and he would pay for the stuff to make it. While he likes the smell of Hoppe's, like most guys seem to, his wife really hates it. He say she never says anything when he uses Ed's Red.

I went to Wally World and picked up a couple of 1 gallon gas safety cans. Then to Home Depot for all the other stuff. I ordered 2 lbs. of anhydrous Lanolin a couple of weeks ago off of Ebay. So, I made up a gallon for me and a gallon for him. I will give him his tomorrow at work. He is going to be surprised! Merry Christmas,Tim.

Ed's Red, the original CLP.

I made a gallon or more of that stuff a couple years back and still haven't used it all. Then again I don't use it every time. I still have Hoppe's and CLP around.

I really don't like CLP. I think it is a little heavy for a lot of applications, isn't a really good cleaner, and smells really bad. Just my opinion, and I thoroughly realize that it is a minority opinion. I use Hoppes for rifle and pistol bores, and Ed's Red for everything else. It does a great job on auto loader pistons and choke tubes.

It seems that the addition of Lanolin isn't very popular either, but I like it because it leaves a nice coating behind that provides the protection component.

Just my thinking, I really like the stuff and use it a lot.
