First off, I think this is the right sub-forum for this, if it isn't, please let me know.

I have an Egyptian FN-49 that I purchased in the late eighties or nineties, I really don't know which. It was back when surplus guns were the thing. I thought it would become a truck gun, but it was just too big for that.

I recall shooting it once, that was decades ago. All I can say is that it worked fine.

I think you are seeing that I don't value this rifle highly and I see no reason to keep it. The title says what it is, an Egyptian FN-49, 8mm Mauser.

Looking at this:
GOOD: In safe working condition, minor wear on working surfaces, no broken parts, no corrosion or pitting that will interfere with proper functioning.

FAIR: In safe working condition but well worn, perhaps requiring replacement of minor parts or adjustments which should be indicated in advertisement, no rust, but may have corrosion pits which do not render article unsafe or inoperable.

I am going to say between these two. I can recall nothing that is broken or needs replacement, I hesitate to say "good" because it is just dirty (dust+oil and the like).

I did look on Gunbroker; but there are few 8mm FN-49s' the only ones there seem to be claiming that they are like new, museum quality, condition. I wouldn't be able to say that about this one.

Any ballpark estimates?

Theres not lots of them around. Thats a good thing. But if yours is just a shooter instead of collector grade thats not good. 8MM surplus has dried up so it's not cheap to just shoot it a lot. I'm thinking 800-1K. Maybe more if you find someone who really wants one. Thats just a guess. Best thing to do is put it up for auction to get the best price for it. A local shop can list it for you for a percentage. Good luck.

They’re about $800-1000. If I had that money sitting around, I’d even offer to buy it as I think they’re cool rifles.

Gunbroker: On upper area of main page, after signing in, click " Advanced", then on the next page make sure you click "Completed Auctions (or Items)". On the same page, "firearms", then enter the Search Words.

An astute milsurp friend was told that the Blue Book of Gun Values means that many collectors Double the stated value of a specific gun to figure a retail value.

If this is valid, I don't remember the reason. Maybe Blue Book is a type of lower wholesale value for dealers before a large retail mark-up?

My buddy had two at his shop couple years ago.....

One was a Luxembourg contract in .30-06, it sold in few days for a grand.
The other was an Egyptian, sat there for over a year at $600......

Still kick myself for not getting the '06 myself, it was an awesome gun.
