I have a pristine Winchester semi-auto 22 cal Model 77. Believe these went out of production in the 60's. It appears to extract the spent case from the chamber OK but fails to eject the spent case leaving it in the action causing a jam. This happens on a constant basis and if it gets of 2 or 3 rounds out without this malfunction it is a miracle. Feeding seems good also. This thing has been thru two gunsmiths who claim all appears OK from a parts and wear basis and that it should function OK. Only thing I can think of is something wrong in spring rates. Anyone out there have similar experiece with one of these and if you managed to find a fix would sure appreciate you passing it on my way. Thanks a big lot.

win 77

If memory serves me correctly the firing pin and ejector are contained together in the same housing .It is a spring loaded ,somewhat complicated system.I think the arm that protudes out of the housing when the action cycles back is probably broken..??Have it checked out.
CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION . DO NOT LOOK INTO THE RECIEVER WHILE DISASSEMBLY!!!!THE HAMMER IS UNDER SPRING TENSION AND WHEN THE TRIGGER IS PULL IT FLIES OUT !!!
I ALMOST LOST AN EYE DOING ONE.Of course I read a caution of dissassembly somewhere after the fact.

Chris-Thank you for your interest in this 77 problem. You are correct that the firing pin and ejector are a combined unit. I'm going to tear the thing down this weekend and see if this appears to be the problem. Who ever designed this model and whoever approved it for production had to be whacko's of some type. No wonder why it wasn't one of Winchesters top sellers although it is a nice appearing piece from the outside.
